It’s not fair that no matter what the fact is some women have
naturally strong nails, while the rest of us have to deal with weak, sometimes
flaky nails. Sorry to say this but there is no guaranteed formula that can
transform your fragile nails into strong talons, but we can offer you a few
pointers that can help you grow more beautiful nails.
These tips won’t be in order of which is best to do first
because they are all great tips/ideas for getting your nails to start behaving
again. Some women are born with weak, brittle nails because that is what their
mom’s have. I’m not sure that these tips will make those ladies nails stronger
but it might so do read on.
Tip 1: Always
wear rubber gloves while washing dishes, your car whatever will cause you to
soak your nails in water for a long period of time. Soaking your nails is one
sure way to weaken them. Why? Detergents strip away the natural oils your nails
need for strength. Have a job that has you wearing gloves all the time? If your
hands are becoming sweaty all the time inside the gloves, try wearing thin
cotton ones underneath to help absorb the moisture and that can further protect
your nails. Wear gloves while taking care of your garden to prevent damage as
well.
Tip 2: It’s
essential to use a acetone-free nail polish removers because acetone is very
drying and can only further weaken your already fragile nails.
Tip 3: Most
reputable nail-care brands offer a nail strengthener to help prevent splitting
and flaking. You would apply it underneath your base coat. Just watch out for
nail strengtheners that contain formaldehyde. It is known to be extremely
drying even though it can also make your nails temporarily toughen it can also
make your nails more brittle. It’s a double edge sword so to speak.
Formaldehyde goes by other names on nails ingredient lists so also watch for words
such as toluene, toluene sulphonamide and toluene sulphonic acid.
Tip 4: Avoid
using your nails as tools, even the toughest nails will break when opening a
can of soda. Fingernails are not meant to be used as screwdrivers, scrapers or
levers.
Tip 5: Get into
the habit of applying hand cream each and ever time you wash your hands to help
boost moisture levels and minimize brittle and dry nails. Also at night
applying nail oils are known to be useful as well.
If your nails just tend to break then most sensible thing to
do is just to keep them short. Short nails are always in fashion and are
practical as well as attractive. Follow these tips and your weak nails may become
stronger after all.
