Are you using the proper golf grip? Chances are that you may not be and your golf shots may be suffering because of your golf grip. Here are a few tips to consider to get you back on the right track and using the proper golf grip.

Which Grip to Use

There are three basic grips that golfers use when playing golf - overlapping, interlocking and baseball grips. Using the overlapping grip, the little finger of one hand will be placed over the index finger of the other hand. The setup for the interlocking grip is almost the same as the overlapping grip except the two fingers will be interlocked instead of overlapped. When using the baseball grip, the two fingers do not interlock or overlap, they simple meet together.

You are probably wondering what grip is the proper golf grip and which one makes for the best swing? This question can be debated forever and you still wouldn't come to a definitive answer. What grip suits you best is really up to the individual. Different people are comfortable with different grips. The best advice is to experiment with all three grips and see which one suits your game the best.

Grip Pressure

One of the biggest mistakes golfers make is the pressure that they use to grip the club when preparing to strike the ball. If your grip is too tense the chances are you are loosing valuable yards off of the tee. Ultimately, the proper golf grip should be somewhere in the middle between a really intense grip and an extremely loose grip with a slight edge towards loose. With a grip like this and the proper hand placement, you will be well on your way to longer and straighter golf shots.

Are you loosing distance off of your golf shots and you can't figure out why? Well, it may be possible that your grip that you are using does not suit your game. Don't be afraid to experiment a little with the three basic golf grips - overlapping, interlocking and baseball grips. Also, you may be loosing a few yards just by tensing up before you strike the ball. Make sure that when you address the ball your hands and forearms are tension free. Follow these simple tips and you will be on your way to developing the proper golf grip and bettering your golf game.
