Organizing and Cleaning Tips and Hints

What area of the house does Dad hold most dear to his heart?
His garage and workshop, naturally!

Can he find what he is looking for?
Probably not and that leads to going to Home Depot, Lowes or Menards to find the item that he needs (right this minute, of course), so Dad spends excess money on something that he already owns…if only he could find it. My bet would be that once he purchases this item that it gets lost in the mess just as the first one did.

According to Dad, he knows where everything is in that good-old-garage and doesn't need to have it 'cleaned-up' or 'organized', but we all know that he is wrong about that.

Now tell me the truth; wouldn't it be easier to find things if they were all in holders on the wall or containers on a shelf and labeled so he could just stand there and look around the garage or workshop and find what he is looking for?

It doesn't have to be an expensive storage item to start out with, it can be something as simple as a cardboard box with contact paper across the front and a index card taped on it, using a magic marker for writing, so the words stand out nice and clear.

Here are 10 more gift ideas Dad would love to have;

  1. How about a string holder, twine holder, and wire holder rack, with a scissors hung next to it so he doesn't have to hunt for a way to cut it?

  1. A great way to keep track of electrical tape, masking tape and duct tape is to purchase (or make) a towel bar or paper towel holder and slide the roll of tape on the dowel. Also keep a scissors handy, in this area it will come in handy, or you could attach a saw blade to use for cutting the tape.

  1. Something really handy for Dad to take with him are, a few plastic toolboxes, to hold electric tools and keep all of the accessories to go with the drill right in the box? It is nice to have the drill in a case, insert Styrofoam in the tray and indent areas for each size drill bit so that they won't roll and get chipped and keep an area for the screwdriver bits too.

  1. Then, of course, we have all of that wall space that can be used for hanging long handled tools or you may want to get him a floor organizer that will hold everything.

  1. They also make holders for extension cords so that the cords aren't all twisted up and you can just unroll the amount of cord that you need. A ceiling cord extension is also a handy little gadget that would be a delight to dad.

  1. A magnetic holder that can go on the workbench, so when he is taking something apart that has small pieces, he doesn't lose any of the parts. Just put them in the little tray and they will stick the plate until he is ready to use them again.

  1. Every garage and workshop needs a long handled dustpan! Do you know how many times in one year's time that a person bends over just to sweep dirt into a dustpan? It will do Dad's back some good to be able to stop bending so much.

  1. How about some wall holders for saw blades, wheelbarrows, ladders and all of the other things that takes up space on the floor or get lost?

  1. A definite must in any garage is a garbage can, a matter of fact he could use two of them, one for paper and one for cans.

  1. In the kitchen organizing area of any store, they have wall hanging racks for canned goods and spices; these are great in a garage for spray cans, automotive cleaners and waxes, spray glue and a multitude of other things.

Help Dad get organized this Father's Day and when he see's his new garage or workshop and that he can actually 'find' everything that is in it, he will think of you in his heart and give you a million thanks year round.

A lovely idea, but if you're going to put anything up yourself or clean up any of his "areas", just be careful you don't throw out junk only to find that he considered it "precious and irreplacable". It's his day after all. *Smile*
