Studies show that most people will use the same deodorant from their teenage years through adulthood. For most adults, this is also true of hairstyles. We are creatures of comfort and sometimes stepping out of the boat and trying a new hairstyle is the last thing on our agenda.

For women it can be a matter of time. Who has time to learn a new style, or what does it matter if you are at home all the time and only have kids to impress? For men, it is the fear of change. I can tell you this: if you have not gotten a new hairstyle since high school or if you are even asking the question-it is time! For you who need an excuse, following is a list of times when a new hairstyle is appropriate.

Season Change

The seasons changing are a great time to try something new. Go for something short and sexy for the summer months! Go for a darker shade in the winter months. The great thing about hair is that it grows out, so whatever style or color you try is never permanent. Live a little. You could be four different people in the course of a year!

A New Profession

You know the great feeling you get right after you get a haircut? All the more reason to talk with a stylist about your new profession. Get a great style so that you can feel confident when you begin your new career!

A Life Change Moment

We all have those things that happen in our lives. Maybe it is a major move to a new area or having a kid, getting a divorce-these are the moments that change is happening all around us. These are great times to reevaluate yourself and your style. Maybe the area you moved to is a city and where you came from is country. Talk to your stylist about what styles are popular in the area. It will help you fit in easier and give you a new confidence about your surroundings.

The Over-Ten-Years Test

If you have had your style for over ten years, it is a time for a change. I don't care if you are comfortable or if you think it will come back in style one day. It is time for a change! Styles are different and it is time for you to move out of the rut. There has been much progress in the beauty salon business since you last got a haircut. Give your salon personnel the chance to show you that progress. I have male and female friends who refuse to change hairstyles and it looks like they are stuck in a different decade. They are! Modernize your style!

The change does not have to be drastically different. Just update your style. If you don't know how to do that, look at pictures in magazines or on the internet. Stylists don't mind if you bring photos along.  If you hate it so much after it's done, you can always go back to what you had before. Add some color. Your hair can have personality as well. What are you saying if you continue with the same style you have always had?  Put some adventure in your life! Put some pizazz in your style! It is time!

Good article with good reasons to make a change. Everyday, you can go to any mall and see those who are stuck in the 70s or 80s. There are ways to have a tasteful, contemporary hairstyle.

Thanks for the comment! I totally agree, but I know how easy it is to get stuck in that rut.

Asher, a very good article. It seems those who are foot loose and fancy free about changing hairstyles are way out there and those who arent', are way back there, 70's and 80's, as you said. I'll change in a heartbeat! (A real problem.) Welcome to SearchWarp! Write on!

Thanks so much for the compliments! I think as we get older we lose our nerve. Good luck on changing! Remember I am in that same boat, so if I can do it so can you! Thanks for the comments!

Asher! Where were you when I went to my 'ex' hair-dresser 3 years ago and telling her 'to get creative and have fun'... boy, was that a mistake and it took me 1-1/2 years to get my hair back to 'normal' -- Good article, thanks!
