Have you ever noticed that fathers just don't seem to excited about the holiday that shows them they are the most amazing ever? I think it might be because traditionally shopping for dad is not the easiest thing to do.
You have endless stores promoting the class tie gift. I think they have a tie quota or something. If your dad/husband is like mine are-ties are not thrilling at any point in their life. This year, I have resolved for Father's Day to be different! I am looking for some hooping and hollaring or at least a look of good cheer on his face (not the fake smile either). So here are some of my thoughts. Thought those reading might also like some suggestions.
For The Movie Nut
I just saw the coolest thing for those men who like movies. It is a giftcard that comes with a mini dvd that shows previews of hundreds of movies for them to choose a dvd from. They then go online at giftflix.com to choose what movies they want. Check it out! You don't have to guess on what movie to get and they get their own movie! You can also plan a day at the movies but realize that he most likely is not going to have the most fun in the family animated movie. Go for adventure and violence with a side of action.
Gadget Guru
These guys are the easiest to buy for if you have the money. From ipods to computer hardware, these guys are easy to impress. The hottest thing on the market right now is the new iPhone scheduled to be release June 9, just in time for the holiday. Of course, like I said-it isn't cheap. Just visit apple.com on how to purchase. Guys also like video games-splurge for the WII or just buys some video games. Include a coupon for free uninterrupted/no sharing video game time. The possibilities are endless with this set of guys, just tour your local tech store and stock up or give the gift card.
Sports Fan
I actually pay for my son and husband to go to a major league baseball game on Father's Day. It is awesome because they have all sorts of promotions like fathers running the bases and cool gift items. You can also accessorize the package with a jersey of his favorite player or another sporting souvenir. The possibilites are endless. I am sending my own dad a signed baseball. It costs me a few hours in line. Whatever sport they are into, buy a jersey, equipment, golf time or just time doing that sport-get creative!
Adventure Seeker
Take a family trip to the paintball field. Challenge him at family Laser Tag. The kids will enjoy getting to play with dad! Buy the family a marshmallow shooter and go to town. thinkgeek.com has several cool versions of this popular toy. Dad will enjoy being able to legally shoot at his kids.
Outdoors Dad
My dad loves to garden. The gift I have found he likes is to take and make stepping stones with his grandchildren. He loves having a reminder of them when he goes outside to garden.
Calendar
This gift gives all year. Kodak and Shutterfly and even Wal-mart allows you to compose pictures for every month. This is great for those dads who are far away. It allows them to see pictures throughout the year.
Hope this gets you started! You know your dad best so don't go with boring this year! Get creative! Show him why he is special!
