Let's take a look at the meaning of the word father. According to the American Heritage Dictionary the meaning of the word father is: A man who begets or raises a child. Fathers comes in different shapes, sizes and colors.

There are some good fathers and unfortunately there are some bad ones as well. There are children in this world today who don't even know who their father is and it's sad to say but there are also some who know who they are but because of phyiscally or emotional abuse they wish they didn't.

So many fathers dropped the ball in raising their children, especially the male child. There is no wonder some of our male children end up dropping out of school, joining gangs and eventually touring the judical system.

For some it may be an early grave all because of the lack of a good male role model in their lives. Fathers you are needed in your children lives.

The title of father can not be replaced by no other. No matter what the circumstance may be or what position or title that you may or may not hold. All that matters to a child is to know that they have their father's love. That in it self would make a big difference.

So I say to all the fathers out there who are doing what they are suppose to concerning their children, keep up the good work. Raise your children with love, dignity and respect and not only will you reap the rewards but the generation of our children will be much better and so would the world we live in.

Janie,
This is a wondeful article. I wish you had expanded it more and given some specific examples of what a good father looks like. Thank you.
