Smile actually has a great impact on our life. A simple
gesture can make a huge difference. Smiling makes one feels good. The little
smile on your face also affects others as well. You make them happy!
There are social psychology research that show our facial expressions do
reflect our inner feelings, and by changing our facial expression, we can help
to change our feelings too. The studies show that different facial expressions
are accompanied by changes in physiological activity. In other words, when we
smile we cannot feel angry for instance, at the exact moment we are smiling! It
appears to be physiologically impossible.
Try this now! Put a smile on your face and think of
something that makes you angry, do you feel angry? I did not! How about you?
Having a smile on our face is easy but most people seem to
be unable to do that easily. I must admit even I have a problem in that. Stress
has become part and parcel of our life and our faces have been 'dragged' down
by the stress and longer smile easily. The rapid pace of our life has almost
destroyed our ability to display emotions to others. We no longer smile to
people we see, instead we showed them the emotionless, weary eyes look.
However, there is good news. We can learn to SMILE again! But, we need the
discipline in doing that as well. We just need to constantly remind ourselves
to 'Smile'. I suggest the first thing to do when you wake up in the morning is
to smile to yourself and say "I want to have a HAPPY day today!" Next, put a smile on our face. Remember, when others look at you and you have a
smile, you make their day and when they smile back, they make your day! Smile
to your Dad, your Mum, even your own children and friends, make their day.
So start smiling now and be HAPPY!
