To commemorate the memory of my father who passed away in 1985. This Father’s Day I thought I would share a poem I wrote last year as a tribute to acknowledge what would have been his 100th birthday.

A Tribute To My Father on His Birthday

The 5th … of July 1906, this was the year - of my father’s birth

Another child to add to God’s list - here - on the planet earth

However, this child was special to the Lord up in heaven

For he would father children the total amounting to eleven

Lacking an education to meet society’s standard of living

He toiled at hard labor; this was his way of giving

A quiet man not much to say, as he carried on throughout the

Course of a day

He had his opinions on the topics of politics, but to yak away all day

Was just not his way

Love was more than a just word to him; - it was his way of living,

For everything he done, he done with love

No one knew that better than the people who mingled with him. For this man I

Speak of - everyone thought the world of

I would always remember him, - on his knees late at night

Praying to the Lord - asking him - to always keep his children within his sight

A century has passed since he made his entry into the world

He served his time, and served it well - now with the Lord - heaven unfurls

"My Father" photo taken in (1929)

My mother has joined him - together with the Lord, - they have found true

Freedom

Someday all of us children - will be reunited with them. - The Lord will recognize

Us, - in his promised - kingdom

This is my very first fathers day, as we have just given birth (well to be fair, my wife did most of the birthing part *smile*) to a beautiful baby boy. As I start out on this wonderful journey I also pay tribute to my own father who is no longer with us. Thanks for sharing your poem, thoughts and memories of your father David and through your lovely tribute, reminding me of my own father.

Thank you Avis, the picture in this article was taken in 1929. He married a year later and as I say in my article he toiled at hard labor all his life so he wasn't always so well dressed.

O.K. Bruce, I've been a member of search warp since July of 05. Let me say I was new at computers I used to think young people had mice in their homes when they would use the word mouse in relating to computers. As a writer I bought a few books on writing style I was very bad in grammer and all other aspects of writing when I first began. as far as search warp it's a natural trait in my family to be a co. man. What I mean is all my brothers where ever they work they take an interest in the co. they work for and always try to make improvements on the job. that's how I know a good man when I either see one, or know how they work, and I believe you are good at what you do. "thanks again"
