I doubt there is a person in the country unaware of the current legal difficulties surrounding a certain young United States heiress, Paris Hilton. I’ve listened to many viewpoints over the weekend and realized most everyone agreed that she needed to be returned to jail. It’s hard not to feel badly for any young person going through a trauma. Photos of Paris taken with tears streaking down her face while looking back at her mother are really sad. Who is truly to blame in this legal tangle? In most cases, they say it takes a village to raise a child. I would like to make sure the following industries and persons who helped make Paris Hilton who she is today are properly recognized:

Photographers: Paris Hilton is famous for no positive accomplishments whatsoever. At best, she displays a mediocre talent for singing and acting. She can shop and party hop on an Olympic scale, but is that really an accomplishment? So why then, are we forced to gaze upon photo after photo taken of this young woman? I suppose that leads me to my next point.

Publications and Television: Thank you for continuing to celebrate, as well as encouraging others to emulate, a spoiled rich lifestyle. What is happening to us as a country that the highest goals in life for many are to avoid any real work, spend lots of money on frivolous things, and be celebrated for a morally flawed lifestyle? People used to be admired for their “gumption", their “can-do" attitude, and their ability to work hard and meet their obligations. The American dream was that you could work hard and find success. I fear that our next generation is headed for much heartache and dissatisfaction with their lives. What happens when they grow up and find one usually has to work in order to spend?

Parents of Paris Hilton: I’m sure that Paris’s parents love her very much, and wanted only the best for their child while she was growing up. I wasn’t present during her childhood, but I can tell by her symptoms that her childhood was mostly one of wants being met. So many parents have fallen into the premise that their children should only have the best. They forget to teach their children the hard lessons about consequences and responsibility. The truth of the matter is that Paris was stopped not once, but twice, for driving on a suspended license. In each instance, she would have been informed of the illegalities of what she was doing, so she can hardly plead ignorance. I can almost imagine her saying, “What are they going to do, throw me in jail?" Exactly! And that leads me to my last point.

The Citizens of the United States: How can we continue to be so laissez-faire about the first law broken by Paris Hilton? Anyone caught driving while intoxicated should not be allowed the opportunity to go out and do it again. Granted, she was not intoxicated on later stops, but why was she even given the opportunity? Drunk driving puts me at risk, it puts my family at risk, and it puts you and your family at risk. Until we as a country do something to change the current laws regarding drunk driving, people are going to try getting away with it time and again. I’m so tired of hearing about people killed or injured by intoxicated drivers. In this day and age it is completely unforgivable! Is a suspended license really a punishment?

In light of the current attitudes in our culture I’m really not surprised that poor Paris Hilton never really believed she could go to jail. I imagine when she was released after only three days both she and her family felt they had cause to celebrate. The judge in this whole sordid affair is the only person I respect at all. I wish there were more out there like him. Paris Hilton should never have been given preferential treatment. Maybe now she’ll actually learn the lesson that if you break the law, you have consequences to face. For the rest of us, that’s how it works. And now, thanks to a certain stern judge, maybe Paris will learn. C’est la vie. That’s life. That’s how it’s supposed to work.

Thank you so much for the compliment! I have lots of thoughts on poor Lindsay; I just haven't decided if others are ready to read them or not. LOL

Judy, this is an excellent article. I loved the title. I never would have thought anything about Paris Hilton would be read by me. Leave it to your engaging writing style to make me succumb. Thank you. I agree with you, too.

Your article was excellent, I enjoyed it tremendously Judy, kudos! And let's not forget,Paris Hilton is 26 years old.I had all five of my kids at her age! But that aside; we have young men and women barely over 18-19 years old fighting for that dim wit's freedom to cavort in public! Someone with authority let her out or got paid to let her out to attend the MTV awards. That wouldn't happen to a "poor" kid or any ordinary person for that matter. There are lots of media people, papparazzi as it were, that make their living off this rich young woman's picture, just like Anna Nicole or Princess Diana. They catch her crying or rolling her eyes, and just make up a story to match the picture, which in turn fills up some gossip rag, glossy magazine or news website, becomes late night talk show material, yada yada. IMO, it's all hype but it keeps a lot of folks employed. We have a tabloid mentality, kinda like the back fence gossip of old. The perils of Paris could be used as an opportunity though, to talk to our kids about the seriousness and true consequences of that kind of behavior. It could impede their ability to find work or get credit or a place to live, with a felony DUI on their record.....or worse. Oh, I just remembered, Lindsey's 21st birthday bash is coming up in Vegas soon, they should have a field day with that!

Judy, I enjoyed your article and could not agree more with the content! I'm sure Paris and family we're confident they could, yet again, buy their way out of trouble with celebrity status, expensive lawyers and money hungry medical practitioners ready to ratify any melody. No doubt this assumption was further reinforced on Paris' first release from jail when a "donation" to the sheriff nicely netted the desired results.

The sad truth is that there are two sets of rules, those for us common Joe’s and those for the mega wealthy and influential. It was heartening to see that the judge was willing to make a stand for what was right and bring Paris to task not once but twice. I honestly hope it helps sober (pardon the pun) and mature an otherwise spoilt brat.
