Some of you may have notced that Bellsouth DSL has recently blocked port 25 (smtp) on their email server system to cut down on SPAM and email address spoofing. They now say that their users are required to use Bellsouth's smtp server "mail.bellsouth.net" instead of other external domain oriented smtp servers to send messages. They provide instructions to change your email clients settings through their online help system. But, there is a very easy work around that will allow you to continue using your own smtp server as before. Simply change the smtp port number (in your accounts advanced settings tab) from port "25" to port "2525" and wha-la, boda-bing it works! This is a trick I learned while working for a old defunkt hosting company called Xeran back in the early ninties. A system administrator there named Jason McBrayer told me about this very nifty if little known hack!
