Back for another round, The Fantastic Four bring a much more action-packed story, and delightfully well-developed plot line, at least for a movie with it’s roots in comic books.
This time we see Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd), and Sue Storm, aka The Invisible Woman (Jessica Alba), attempt to tie the knot and have ‘normal lives’ despite the overwhelmingly constant presence of the media through tabloids, newspapers, and paparazzi, and perpetual tragic happenings that the four must prevent. Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch (Chris Evans), and Ben Grimm, aka The Thing (Michael Chiklis), still proceed with their constant bickering and joking around throughout the movie, and at one point actually switch powers and give each other a little payback.
The mysterious and sleek Silver Surfer (Voiced by Laurence Fishburne) flies around the globe creating rolling power outages and giant holes in the earth, which, of course, the Fantastic Four must stop. His surfboard is one of the most interesting super-items in the movie. The Silver Surfer uses it to suck in missiles, create blasts of energy and numerous other things. And, to further complicate things, a massive, beastly space cloud, Galactus, attempts to ravage the earth. We see the return of Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom (Julian McMahon) whose allegiance is questionable, and who also never misses a chance to poke fun at Reed.
Overall, this movie much more satisfying to watch than the first installment, and has much more plot and character development, making it well worth the ticket price. Don’t miss the opportunity to see it in theaters!
