If you were living twenty years ago, the title of this essay would probably evoke beautiful images of Paris France and clear cut diamonds. Yet, these two names have been in one media scandal after another. Do you think that Paris Hilton cares if her name is being used as a derogatory verb? Or, do you think Dustin Diamond has consulted with the producers of the X-rated entertainment industry with his verbism, "Screeched." I.e., have you been screeched? I will not even go into the specifics of what being screeched means. Lets just say that it involves the use (or not) of toilet paper.
Where to begin? Their parents named both of them without any forethought. Now, when someone uses the word Paris, we think of the blonde heiress who flashes her body parts while intoxicated, not Paris France. Also, when someone mentions Dustin Diamond's character Screech, we all picture a porno movie, not the loveable character from Saved By The Bell.
Just recently, Dustin Diamond was cast on VH-1's Celebrity Fit Club. All during the tapings, he caused one problem after another. On one program, he made fun of a celebrity who cried when he discussed his baby daughter. On another, he wore a shirt that read "star of the show." On a very memorable episode, Dustin got into an argument with the drill instructor, Harvey Walden, who wanted to wipe the floor with Screech. Screech (Diamond) immediately threatened to get his lawyer to sue if he was threatened.
I am not sure what Dustin Diamond is aiming for, or what his goals are (if he has any). A few years ago, he was asking for donations to save his house from being repo'd. Now, last year, he "consented" to releasing his porno tape "that was stolen" from his residence. I guess the old saying is true, "Good Press, Bad Press, it is all the same." I believe Dustin Diamond subscribes to this theory. I am sure his parents are proud.
Paris Hilton just recently found God after being released from jail due to a rash. What a sentence! She related that she is tired of playing dumb and wants to live her life for God from here on out. I am not against God, in fact I am all for it. But, would it not have been easier to find God and Our Lord Jesus Christ without having to go to jail?
I agree we all make mistakes, and I have surely had my share of mistakes. I am just fortunate that I have not had mine played out in the media. Paris, also, had her porno tape escapade, but unlike Dustin Diamond, Paris really did not want the tape leaked out to the world. She fought the release with a team of lawyers.
I wish we could go back to a simpler and more trusting world maybe twenty to thirty years ago where there were not any new Paris Hilton dancing on the table topless photos or someone running up to me asking, "Have you been Screeched?" A world where Paris meant Paris France and the word Diamond meant a gem affixed to a wedding band with an oath made before God.
