The Fourth of July is an excellent time for crafts to celebrate the independence of our country. We do many crafts during this time because it is a great time to break up the ritual of summer. It also is a great way to sneak in some learning during the summer.

Fourth of July crafts are great because the red, white and blue of the colors are exciting and new. Crafts can go from simple to complex depending on your willingness to get messy and go the extra mile. Either way, kids will delight in spending time together in making these holiday crafts.

Firework Paintings

I have seen this done several ways. For young kids or active boys, there is one way to do a firework painting that is sure to bring about enthusiasm! Take koosh balls or super bounce balls and dip in paint (red, white and blue paint at alternating times). Have ready outside a large sheet of white paper or fabric. Allow the kids to drop the balls on the paper or sheet. Sprinkle with glitter. Instant fireworks will appear. Other methods include placing drops of red, white and blue on paper then blowing the paint with a straw and taping pine needles together and using them as paintbrushes.

Flags

Flags are everywhere during Fourth of July. One way I have seen them done is to take a large sheet of white paper or fabric. Paint the box blue then allow kids to put white handprints as stars. After it dries, allow the kids to step in red paint and walk across for the stripes. Other methods include placing the child's pictures in the stars.

Cookies

This is my favorite, not only because it is yummy-but it is super easy. Buy sugar cookies. Allow the kids to place on cookie sheet. Bake. Buy a carton of icing along with red, white and blue sprinkles. For older kids, allow them to color their own icing with food coloring. Decorate then enjoy!

Have a Parade

Play patriotic music and march around the room, building or community. Cut construction paper to form a bracelet then tape or staple red, white and blue streamers to the bracelet. Buy little flags for the kids to wave as well. Make Uncle Sam hats. Encourage kids to get involved and wave their arms as they march.

Noodle Necklaces

Dye noodles red, white and blue. Allow the children to place on plastic lacing to make an easy necklace and craft. The lacing is great for hand-eye coordination.

Firework Punch

Allow the children to fill an ice cube tray with their favorite red or blue punch. Once frozen place in a clear glass, then add Sprite or 7-Up and watch the show!

Doing patriotic crafts is easy and fun! Let the kids lead if you don't know what to do. Provide some red, white and blue paint along with some stickers and just see what they make. Get creative and enjoy some family time together working at crafts.

Nice article, its hard enough to find things to entertain our children so you have addressed a good area of interest in a thought full and well written way. Plain & simple, clear to understand.
