If you are an African American male, there is a big chance that you may get hair bumps, neck bumps, or ingrown hairs. Although you may feel that you are the only one who has them or feel slightly embarrassed, you are not alone. The statistics are staggering. Over 70% of African American men suffer from ingrown hairs or razor bumps, which are technically known as pseudofolliculitis barbae. Over time, this can cause keloidal scarring or hard black bumps that appear all over the lower neck and chin area. You may ask yourself, why do so many African American males suffer from hair bumps? The answer is African Americans have tighter hair curl patterns.

Hair bumps occur when your hair, whether it is on your face or neck, begins to curl and dig into the hair follicle adjacent to the hair. When this occurs, irritation and inflammation occurs. Then, a razor bump or ingrown hair is born. These neck bumps, razor bumps, or hair bumps are very itchy and tend to burn when one tries to shave them or place aftershave solutions on them. These bumps are often unsightly and a source of frustration and pain. If you want to eliminate your hair bumps, and do not have money for laser surgery, try the following steps.

Step #1: Decrease the amount of shaving you do until the infected area begins to heal . Although many men like to have a clean shave, if you continuously run a sharp razor blade over your hair bumps, they will worsen. Try shaving twice per week, it will give you the George Clooney/Denzel Washington “manly look" and everyone loves that look. Next time you are at the bookstore, look at the magazines. You will not see too many clean faces, unless it is Bill Gates.

Step #2: Give up the razor blade and switch to an electric shaver . Improper shaving techniques may have caused your bumps to appear in the first place. Use of an electric shaver may help your neck, razor, or hair bumps because electric shavers do not cut as close as razor blades do. Now, please do not go out and buy one of those expensive electric shavers that grind against your face with a mini-razor to create the cleanest shave. Instead, go to Walmart or Sally’s Beauty Supply and pick up an affordable pair of clippers. Spend no more than $35. Do not shave against the grain of your beard and do not stretch the skin. Shave in the same direction your hair grows. Use only one stroke over each area of the beard. Also, make sure that you set your electric razor’s setting to high in order to avoid close shaving.

Step #3: Cleanse Your Face Everyday : Most men do not wash their face, but to eliminate those ugly bumps you are going to have to cleanse your face at least two times per day, not just before shaving. There are tons of products on the market to cleanse your skin, but very few work. I recommend trying Beauty 4 Ashes Hair Bump Destroying System. It is the natural equivalent of Tend Skin. Yet, Beauty 4 Ashes ® Hair Bump Destroying System will not cause skin scarring or skin scaling because it does not use chemicals and acids to eat through the skin. Beauty 4 Ashes Hair Bump Destroying system contains a tea tree bump destroying pre-wash and an hair bump destroying solution, which you apply directly to your hair bumps at least twice per day. The cleanser is very mild, yet effective, and can be used as a face wash, shampoo, and pre-treatment cleanser. It is 100 percent natural and will not cause skin irritation. You can find it at wwwdiscoverb4acom. Unlike many other hair bump solutions that only try to eliminate your bumps with tea tree or salicylic acid, this system does more by also including essential oils, such as neroli, which are fungicides that heal scars as well. While eliminating hair bumps is extremely unlikely, this will system will definitely keep your hair bumps under control, reducing them to a point where nobody notices them, except for you. Truly, the only way to eliminate all of your hair bumps, especially if they are severe, is with laser treatments. So, be very weary of any product that tells you it will eliminate your bumps-- 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Eliminating hair bumps requires up keep and better personal grooming habits, not just a miracle product.

Step #4: If Everything Fails Consider Electrolysis : This should be your last option; the laser hair removal process can be very expensive and takes repeated visits. Before pursuing surgery, make sure that you ask your doctor for antibiotics to fight your ingrown hairs from the inside out.
