Drew Carey announced to David Letterman that he is the new host of The Price Is Right. Letterman was taping his late night show in which Carey was a guest to promote another CBS gameshow scheduled to premier Aug. 7.
Carey will replace the famous Bob Barker. Barker, 83, retired in June. He hosted Price for 35 years, becoming a one-man daytime TV institution and a noted animal-rights advocate who signed off each telecast asking audiences to spay and neuter their pets.
Carey has yet to confirm if he will carry on the spay and neuter cause. The 49-year-old comic starred in his own 1995-2004 ABC sitcom, The Drew Carey Show, and was moderator of the 1998-2006 improv show, Whose Line Is It Anyway?
I think Carey is an excellent choice as host. He is quick on his feet and can handle the improvisation of the characters of the guests. He has a great sense of humor and stage presence. I think you could not have picked a better host! Great job CBS!
Carey will have to keep track of showcases, models, excited out-of-town contestants and the value of a goods. Of course, they could change the formatting of the show. But I don't see why they would since it has been such a staple for 35 years. As someone who grew up watching the show, I am excited about its future under Carey's reign.
What are your thoughts on Carey as the new host? I would love to hear.
