The Hall in Palmetto was the new location for the rescheduled, 105.9 The Buzz Summer Jam... Fans lined up to see The Last Great Hope, The Almost, and of course, The Plain White T's. The original date for the Summer Jam was June 1st. It was to be held outdoors at the USF Campus in Sarasota... Wouldn't you know it, the only day all year that it actually rained more than 15 minutes, was that day. But all was not lost. The Almost and the Plain White T's agreed to do it again, even though they contractually didn't have to... Here's to them for doing the right thing, and going way out of their way for the fans! The SW FL Parrot wants to also thank "105.9 The Buzz" and their promoters for giving usVIP (Very Important Parrot) treatment, and holding such a fine event!
And what timing... July 17th, the day of the show, The Plain White T's single, "Hey There Delilah" was #2 on the charts, and the song was the #1 most downloaded song on iTunes. The Hall is a great place to hold a show. There is good acoustics, great access to the stage, a full bar, and you can even play a round of pool between sets... Holding the show at an indoor facility was also a great way to beat the summer heat...
The Last Great Hope is a local band from Venice, FL. They are currently playing a couple dates on the Van's Warped Tour, and they do play locally. Look for their schedule in the SW FL Parrot, or on www.SWFLParrot.com .
The Almost is traveling on the Van's Warped Tour, and immediately following this show they jumped on their bus and drove all night to Atlanta for the show up there, then back to play in St. Pete Friday... "It's a long way to the top if ya wanna rock-n-roll"...
The Plain White T's are on the top of the charts right now, but it hasn't always been that way... They have been around for almost a decade. The band formed in 1997 when lead singer Tom Higgenson stepped into the famous club Metro in Chicago, and had a vision of his future. He partnered with lead guitar Dave Tirio and a few other high school friends in his Chicago suburb of Villa Park, Illinois. They started working on original material, and some covers. With a little luck and some inspiration from Christian Lane, singer of 90s buzz band Loud Lucy, the band found their sound, and a following... They released Come On Over in 2001, Stop in 2002, and All That We Needed in 2005. In 2006 they signed with Hollywood Records and hit the studio again.
Tom Higgenson has been writing material about his life experiences, that can really resonate with anyone who's been in love. In their new album Every Second Counts, Tom sings about the roller coaster of romantic life. The leading single off the new album, "Hate (I Really Don't Like You)," is actually about a girl he dated, here in Florida. Their smash hit, "Hey There Delilah", is an acoustic, heartfelt, song about separation, dreams, and young love. Tom wrote this song about a girl he was trying to impress, but it didn't work... She wouldn't go out with him, and blew him off... Now he's rich and famous... Oops... Ya gatta wonder what she's thinking about now, every time she hears the song playing on the radio...
The success of Hey There Delilah is one of those things no one could have predicted. It is actually a re-release from their album All That We Needed. It was selected for the B side of the Hate single, and just took off. The SW FL Parrot knows that there is a lot of undiscovered talent out there just waiting to break out with their own "Delilah". These diamonds in the rough are the future hits, and industry leaders. They just need some way to showcase their material and reach a greater audience.
