It has been long asserted that people make up their minds about others they meet for the first time within the first thirty seconds of interaction. That does not give you much time to make a good impression. With the competition for good jobs, promotion and business at a record high, projecting a successful image has never been more important. Research has proved consistently that appearance and image matter just as much as achievements and experience. Presenting a professional and appropriate appearance is the key to maintaining a successful image within the market place and beyond. No matter what industry you are in a professional appearance is the best way to secure a customer base.

Here are a few of the most essentials tips to consider.

· Image is everything. Dress to impress. Dress like you already have the job or new business client.

· Remember personal hygiene. Be neatly groomed and free of body odor. Avoid strong fragrances and make sure hair and nails are neat, clean and maintained.

· Mind your manners. The first words you speak have a strong impact on how you are perceived. Speak well and behave postively to project that you are successful, capable and respectful.

· Wearing a jacket or suit instantly give you integrity and clout.

· Avoid overexposure. Short skirts and low cut tops give others a poor impression and distract from your skills as an employee or business client.

· Don’t neglect accessories, as they are just as important as the right outfit. Wearing the right shoes, jewelry or having a stylish laptop bag will communicate a polished look.

Pride in yourself implies pride in your work. Don’t let a sloppy image cost you a new client or job promotion. Going with quality offers a measure of polish, which can say more than you’d think. Regardless of the nature of your job, portraying a professional image through what you wear and how you accessorize is essential for overall business success.
