Austin, Texas has the appeal of both a metropolitan & small town. Austin is the state capital of Texas and home to the University of Texas. Austin is quite famous for it's live music and as such is called the "Live Music Capital of the World".

Downtown Austin

Austin’s 6th street is Texas' equivalent to New Orleans' Bourbon Street. 6th street is filled with its own live music, unique bars and places to eat. From dance clubs like Paradox to more established bars like Fado's and the Gingerman, there’s always something for everyone. In the nearby warehouse district on 4th and 5th Streets, young people sit outside at Cedar Street or sample micro-brews at the Copper Tank. There’s also more live music at Stubb's, La Zona Rosa, Austin City Music Hall and the well-known Antone's. The State Capital is also located in this area on Congress Avenue. The Congress Bridge that leads up to the capital is also home to a million bats that fly from under the bridge each night creating quite a display.

West Austin

The west side of Austin features several lakes which provide great scenery, fabulous views and a myriad of water activities. Along Lake Austin is a strip of establishments that provide a beautiful view and some great food. Some even have piers on the lake where local boaters dock. Further West, there's the largest lake in the area, Lake Travis. During the day, a number of resorts provide water sports, tennis and golf. At dusk, slide up to Carlos & Charlies, the Iguna Grill and others for great food and spectacular views.

South Austin

South Austin has some special sites of its own. On Barton Springs Road is a strip of several restaurants and music venues including Shady Grove and the famous Chuy’s Tex-Mex. A few miles farther is the largest park in Austin, Zilker Park, which includes the naturally occurring Barton Springs swimming pool, Zilker Hillside Theater and a number of sports facilities and hiking trails.

North Austin

To the north, Austin supplies the city with a number of growing suburban neighborhoods and shopping areas. Visit the Arboretum where some of the finest shops in Austin can be found. If you have the opportunity, take a drive along Highway 360 and experience some of the most beautiful scenery in Texas.

Austin Suburbs

As Austin grows, so do the suburbs and outlying areas. North of Austin are growing suburbs like Georgetown, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Leander, Cedar Park. Many major companies like Dell, Motorola and Sematech have made Austin their home.

Austin Sports

While the city doesn't have any teams playing in the NBA, NFL, NHL or MLS, the city does have many teams to follow in and near Austin including the Round Rock Express, a minor league baseball team and the ICE Bats, an affiliate hockey team of the NHL's Minnesota Wild. Of course there is UT Longhorn sports of which the football team is currently ranked number two in the nation!
