Losing weight is very difficult. Sure many people can tell you how to do it, but actually changing your diet and exercising everyday is the hard part. I believe a useful exercise program should motivate and educate you to make a change in your life that you would like to make. A weight loss exercise program should help you by:

1.  Teaching you to set realistic weight loss goal.  You should be aiming to lose from 1 to 3 pounds per week.  If you set your goals higher you may become demoralized and quit. If you set lower goals you may never lose any weight.

2. Helping you track of your calories.  You are always burning calories, even while you sleep. You can find out estimates of how many calories per hour your various activities burn. By adding up your calories burned from your daily routine, exercise activities, and sleep you can get an estimate of the calories your body burns daily. Keep track of all the foods you eat and record all calories that you consume.  Nutrition information is available for most foods. By burning more calories than you consume you can lose weight. You may wish to limit the total number of calories you consume per day.

3. Inspiring you to take action.  An exercise program is useless unless it inspires you to take action.  Reading an exercise program burns some calories but not many.  You have to be inspired to change your diet and exercise daily.

4. Showing you basic nutritional recommendations. The Department of Agriculture has a recommended food pyramid for basic nutritional needs based on your weight, height, sex, and age.

5. Refering you to many different exercise activities. There are millions of exercise activities that can help you lose weight. A weight loss exercise program that gives you many exercise activity options allows a better chance that you find one you like. Finding an activity that you love to use daily to burn calories is the important thing. A popular activity that burns the most calories will only help you if you stick with it.

6. Teaching proper progression. Don't start your first week with exhausting exercise routines and extreme diets or you will probably quit.  A weight loss exercise program should start off easy and make gradual changes. Keep changing your routine monthly so you get the most out of you exercise activities.
