Working from home is becoming a more popular choice for many in the workforce today. Whether you are a telecommuter or have escaped the rat race in favor of setting up your own home business, or simply want to have somewhere to land to deal with bill paying and the other administrative tasks of running your home, a home office is a 'must have' space in a growing number of homes now. Whether you set up a corner office in your kitchen, assign a guest room to double as your office or create an office in your basement, it is crucial that your home office includes everything that you need to contribute to your effectiveness, productivity and success.

However creating a home office does not have to put you into debt. Not many of us are able to run to the luxury of employing a professional designer to create an office for us but you do not have to worry because there are many very creative ways in which you can plan your office space.

Possibly you are able to use a spare room for your office. If you can, then that is great and will will enjoy the benefit of having lots of elbow room.  However, if this is not a possibility, then there are lots of ways to make use of the space that you do have to create your home office. No matter what area you pick out, make sure that it is an area that can be used solely as your office and does not double as an modeling table for your children or a workbench for your spouse's weekend do-it-yourself projects.

Examine your space carefully and think about just what you can do simply and without spending too much money to spruce it up and make it suitable for working at home.

Sometimes simply a lick of paint, some strategically positioned posters or some easy stencil work can jazz up a dreary corner.

Next, you need to look around your house and determine what furnishings you already possess. If, for example, there is a small spare table that would make a suitable desk then you should use it. You have probably got a comfy chair in your dining room that would work fine as an office chair. Look around your home for some suitable pieces that can be brought together to create a relaxing and comfy home office.

You quite possibly already have book shelves, boxes, baskets, bins and a filing cabinet that could also be incorporated into your office. If you do not already have sufficient office supplies available then call in at your favorite discount or office supply store and stock up on some basic items to get your space organized and get your office up and running.
