When Fred was surfing the Internet, he read a few reviews about how learning languages had been made easier, and how many people recommended Pimsleur MP3 courses.  The first time that Fred had thought about learning Cantonese was when he was a little boy and visited New York City.  An entire section of the city had signs that were not even English letters, and conversations on the street sounded so fascinating.  Fred was hopeful that an audio book, especially a Pimsleur MP3 course, might be the way to finally fulfill his childhood dream.  After thinking about it a bit, Fred decided that simply purchasing and listening to an audio book was just too simple in order to learn something as truly foreign as Cantonese.

However, after a little more research about different language techniques, Fred decided that getting a Pimsleur MP3 Cantonese course was worth a try.  Taking an audio book on his evening jog through the park, or on a walk during a break at work, might be an easy way to at least learn a few phrases of Cantonese.  He could even use the phrases on his next visit to New York City, even though now it was on the other side of the country, and not a two-hour ride from his boyhood home.  Just because Fred was very thorough, he spent most of a day looking at audio book language reviews, to make sure the Pimsleur MP3 course was a good choice.  Fred really wanted to be able to have at least a few simple conversations, even though he did not expect to become very fluent.  What he really wanted to do was to be able to understand some of the people on the streets of New York.  He hoped that they would sound like the voices on the audio book.

As it turned out, the Pimsleur MP3 courses had a large number of reviews on the Internet.  The community of people that had bought a Pimsleur MP3 language course in audio book form had their own on-line community with a fair amount of information exchange.  Of course, many of the people had purchased an audio book for Spanish or French, but Fred was amazed at the choices of languages available for purchase.  Not only could someone buy a lesson in Greek or Hebrew, but they could also get an audio book of a particular dialect of a language, such as Brazilian Portuguese.  This spectrum of choices made Fred reconsider his original infatuation with Cantonese for perhaps he should pick something more practical for a middle aged white guy currently living in Arizona.  No, a Pimsleur MP3 Cantonese course it was.

Fred began getting comments about his choice even before he began listening to his audio book.  The mailman had also bought a Pimsleur MP3 course, though his choice of language was Spanish.  His mailman rattled off a whole paragraph in Spanish that he said was his own creation, and not something that he had memorized from his audio book.    Fred thought it sounded just like many of the conversations he overheard in the local Mexican restaurants and was suitably impressed.

Today Fred can rattle off many paragraphs that he did not memorize from his Pimsleur MP3 Cantonese course, and even visited New York (with his audio book) and tried out his new skill.  Fred is another satisfied member of the on-line Pimsleur MP3 community, and recommends their audio books to anyone who will listen.
