When the Aussie TV Comics, Julian Morrow and Chas Licciardello, from the Australian Comic Show "The Chaser's War on Everything," decided to make a fake motorcade, and slip into the line of military cars driving down a Sydney street, towards George Bush's hotel, they had no idea they'd actually make it!
They were among 11 crew members arrested filming outside the InterContinental Hotel, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) television said. The Chasers decided to dress up like Osama bin Laden, and use the Canadians 'Humanitarian Image', as a cloak to slip through security, and it sent them further than originally planned on Sept. 6, 2007.
They had made several failed attempts of trying to break through the security surrounding Mr. Bush, in Sydney Australia last week, attempts are available on youtube, link at bottom of this article.
They decided to pose their motorcade as Canadian, by using the Canadian Flag, and dress in desert clothes of white long robes, with long dark beards, pretending to be Osama bin Laden.
The buzz on the streets say, the Motorcade, with flashing lights, big black trucks, barreling along, was a ruse that wasn't expected to work. Allegedly, the Comics had originally planned on being caught at the first check point, and when waved through, they simply kept going. After being waved through the second check point, curiosity to how far they could get was what compelled them to keep going. By the third check point, meters from Mr. Bush's hotel, they were busted.
The reported reactions by Australian Authorities were a mixture of understanding that despite, the Comics intended no threat or harm to Mr. George W. Bush, it was an outrage all the same for their attempt. Australian Police said the two stars were arrested for breaching a restricted zone in the heart of Sydney, near the meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
