Guinness World Records 2008, book is fresh, and the reports are current with the changing interests of our time.
Without giving away too much information, a little review might entice you to go out and get the book yourself. Some may think that its the same old boring stuff that was in the book back when they were a kid, and yes, some of it still is. Like the guy with the longest fingernails. Yup, after 25 years, he's still there. And the woman with the longest beard, yup, shes there, but the rest? The sports stats changes from year to year, and the tallest horse, is showcased with the smallest underneath, and the worlds heaviest baby is still weighing in at 26lbs.. and we get to see who had the most kidney stones, and he is a Canadian, btw, and you will see the world's largest hamburger!
But what is new?
Most Music Downloads in a year, Longest Career on the USA R & B Chart, Best Selling TV Drama, (Desperate Housewives if you didn't guess.) Video Games, Super Rich, Horrific Hobbies, right down to the smallest digcam..
What about the Movie Industry?
Guinness World Records keeps up to current events, and yes, current Celebrity Status.
It was quite a surprise actually, when I read about the actors, and how they were portrayed. The Most Powerful Actresses are, Jennifer Aniston, and Angelina Jolie, and that was based on their salary, which explains why they are a tie and that's among a few other juicy details, that has nothing to do with Brad. Its a good column, worth reading.
Tom Cruise is the most powerful Actor. (Not a surprise.)
The Worlds Favorite Pirate? Come on.. guess. He's from the Caribbean! All well, we all knew that one, its just so cute the way they have Johnny's bio setup. I will have to get back to you, on if he's the sexiest man who ever LIVED! But he's sure to have my vote on that!
Oh, and Tom Hanks is featured as the Most Consecutive BEST ACTOR Oscar Wins. (You know they should give these actors awards for their placement in this book. Or have they?)
Everyone knows all about Oprah, she was named as Richest Reality TV Host! She has the title for the highest earnings by a TV Personality! The details for Oprah in the book go into detail of the exact amounts! (I skipped over that part, I don't really want to know, Id love Oprah if she hadn't a dime, but it's in the book if you're interested.)
And Canada's Keiffer Sutherland is the Highest Paid Actor! And like Oprah his details are also listed.
There are pages and pages of Celebs, and their special achievements that earned them a place on the page!
Hokey Night in Canada is the longest running sports show! And still running.
They even clocked the guy who watched the most television episodes.
For the kids?
They have plenty!
The Young Achievers are listed; Epic Endeavors; Pop Culture; TV shows; Mans best Friend; Space Technology; Robots; Internet; and Video Games, and the world's biggest Monster Truck!
The lists are endless, and the kids will spend hours flipping through learning so much about science, and the closest star!
For the Edition of Guinness World Records 2008, if there was a rating on a scale of 1-5, and there was a need for trivia in the house, and kids were romping about in dire need of something to keep them busy, and they had this book to educate them.. well.. I'd rate this issue a 5.
Even I was fascinated by the Celeb Pages. Very Intriguing.
