What is prayer other than talking out loud or inside your head, asking who you believe to be your Higher Power, your Being of Light and Love, to help guide you and protect you and your loved ones? The talking is prayer, it doesn’t have to have written words, it doesn’t have to be done kneeling down, it just needs to be a belief that someone is listening.

Prayer can be the most loneliest of activities, since we are usually by ourselves while doing so, and in crisis while we are pleading for help. We trust that our prayers will be answered, but we never really know for sure. Our Higher Power may have something else in store for us. Something we aren’t even aware of yet.

Trust is the key. If we trust that our Being Of Light knows what’s best for us, then we can accept whatever answers we receive. Nothing stays the same forever. Life is constant change. Sometimes we perceive those answers as good, sometimes as bad, but they always seem to be what’s best for us.

We might pray to God to allow us to get this new house we put a bid on. It may be perfect for our family, and just what we have been looking for. The deal falls through, and we must keep looking. We are disappointed and disheartened, and feel perhaps that our prayers were left unanswered. Another month later, we see another house, that is actually in a better neighborhood, with better schools, and has a few extras the other house didn’t. We put in a bid, we get it, and we couldn’t be happier. The kids have friends all up and down the street, and we feel blessed to have our new home-not the one we prayed for, but the one our Higher Power thought best for us!

If we realize this fact, we may trust the next time we pray and don’t get what we prayed for. We’ll know that maybe that just wasn’t what was best for us. My daughter wanted a camaro in the worst way. She finally found one she wanted, but there were problems, the man had to pay off a loan, and it was becoming months, and she finally gave up. I trust that had she gotten that camaro, something would not have been right. She could have gotten into an accident, it could have needed a lot of work and cost her a lot of money, whatever the reason, it wasn’t the right choice for her.

There’s a reason for everything, even if we can’t figure it out. Life, however, is so much simpler if we honestly believe that there is a Higher Being looking out for us, guiding us, steering us, whispering in our ear telling us what to do and what not to do. And if we have something in mind we want, and we don’t get it, it’s best to remember that there’s someone else wiser calling the shots.

Susan Thom is the mother of three children, two sons, 18 and 22, and a daughter 24. Writing calms her, and gives her a place to go by herself! Clears the head and gets it out. She lives in a rural area, with a lake and mountains, and her partner, and has loved writing since she was a child.

She certainly hopes you enjoy her take on life, and her style of communicating that in stories.

She has been on a journey of self discovery for twenty years, and has learned many things about the human mind, and how to maintain some semblance of calm and peace within.

If someone reads one of her stories, and relates to her feelings, and maybe gets a suggestion on how she dealt with them in a positive way, that would be the ultimate gift of her writing.
