Boss's Day is coming up Oct. 16 and we can all let that collected sigh out. So let the spirit of appreciation come upon you and lets get our creative juices flowing to allow your boss to truly feel appreciated (even if he/she isn't).

I think you definitely have to go forward and at least acknowledge the day. You know there will always be one person in the office that will do it and you don’t want to look like the ungrateful employee who could not even take the time to get a card. Plus, you don’t want to allow the other person to be the kiss up.

So here are my suggestions to make an impression that will sure to send you up the corporate ladder.

Go Big!

Team up with your coworkers and pool your resources. Find out what your boss’s interest is and buy something that he/she will enjoy. Suppose your boss is into golf. Why not buy him/her a weekend at a well-known golf resort. Or send him on a vacation. Hey, that means a week without the boss in the office.

Go Traditional

You can always take your boss out of lunch. If your boss is too busy, cater a lunch into him. This is great bonus time between the two of you where you can get to know each other better. Be sure and schedule it with his/her assistant. If the thought makes you queasy at your stomach, then buy him a meal gift card with the knowledge that you thought he could use it when he was able too!

Homemade Goodies

Make a basket of breakfast goodies or sweets. What person does not like homemade cookies, muffins, etc? It will be a good break from the fast food dinners/lunches that your boss is probably use to. Make sure the basket is well decorated with balloons etc. to draw some attention to your boss.

Coffee Lover

Is your boss the frequent shopper at Starbucks? Is he seen continually throughout the day with a coffee mug in his hand. Well, against your best inclinations, he probably has enough mugs so pass up the traditional happy boss’s day mug. Instead, give a gift basket of specialized coffees. Or give the gift card to the local coffee shop. There are also some supreme coffee makers out there. Also look into giving syrups or munchies to go with their gift card or in their baskets.

Decorate His Office

Another gift idea that would be nice to include the co-workers. Get together and decorate his office so that he knows he is appreciated. Include cards, balloons, banners and streamers. It will surely be a surprise.

You know your boss the best so get creative about what you can do to make your boss feel special. If you choose not to get a gift, at least get a card rather it is through email or hand delivered-it is essential to acknowledge their hard work!

Could definitely be fun especially if you owe your boss still for a cruel, practical joke he pulled! Or if they work out of their home office, what is better decoration then decorating their front yard or house. ...hmm-what could we decorate their front yard or house with? I will have to think about that!
