Save yourself some money and have fun with your kids making these frugal Halloween decorations.
1) Shrunken Heads! Cost= a bag of apples. Remember this craft? This can even be done with a plastic knife. Peel an apple and carve two notches for the eyes, two notches on either side of where you want your nose and then carve in a mouth. Then let them air dry or put them in an oven on a VERY low temp of 200 degrees or less and let them shrink! Glue raisins or google eyes on later and place them around the house or on top of stuffed clothes for a head.
2) Garbage Bag Ghosts: Cost = a box of white garbage bags. Stuff the head or bottom of the bag with balled up newspaper or dry leaves and use a twist tie to tie off for the neck. Draw eyes and/or scary mouth with a permanent marker OR glue on black eyes and mouth cut out from construction paper. Hang from the branches of your trees.
3) Jack o-lantern warning: Cost = three small pumpkins. (or free if you grow your own).. Carve out one letter on each to spell Boo. Or invest in a few more pumpkins to spell Keep Out
4) Tombstones: Cost = 3 cans of spray paint at the dollar store. Recyle large chunks of Styrofoam from purchased appliances into these yard decorations. Just Carve them into tombstone shapes with a serrated knife and use a wood burning tool to write your epitaph; RIP, or keep out, Vacancyetc.. Paint the whole piece with black spray paint first, then lightly spray with silver then small dustings of green spray paint (for a mossy look).
5) Spooky Stuffed Greeters: Cost = a spooky mask. Just stuff some pants and a shirt with other clothes or newspaper and top off with a spooky mask on a mop or broom for the head. Place him at your door for a spooky greeter. J
