“Don’t drink and drive” is a familiar phrase in today’s society - and it’s a slogan that should be heeded and taken seriously.  Having a designated driver will keep you out of serious legal trouble and more importantly, save your life or the lives of others.  A designated driver can be a friend or family member – or, another convenient option is to hire a cab or luxury sedan service.

For a concept that barely existed only a couple of decades ago, designated drivers are now popular for New Year’s Eve parties and, for that matter, any occasion where folks might drink more than the legal limit and require transportation.

If selecting a designated driver in your group, the process isn’t as simple as gathering your friends together before a party and picking straws.  Don’t just “take turns.” Best case scenario, everyone should be equally capable of abstaining from alcohol for one evening.  However, this task should always fall to the most trustworthy person, no matter if he or she was the designated driver at the Christmas party two weeks ago.

Show some respect. Being the designated driver generally isn’t that much fun, and it’s even less so when your friends hassle you about it. Remember, your designated driver is there to save your life.

If you’re the host—ask. Hosting a party involves more than just putting out the food and keeping the fridge filled with beer. It’s also your responsibility to ensure your guests make it home safely. It’s always appropriate to ask who the designated driver is. If no one has given this any thought, don’t serve any alcohol until a decision has been made.

Another great and convenient options is calling a cab or luxury sedan. Often times, the best-designed designated driver is a professional cab or luxury sedan service.

When you use a Designated Driver:
Everyone gets home safely.
There is no question of anyone driving under the influence.
No embarrassing field sobriety tests.
No visits to the Detention Center
.
No unflattering booking photos or fingerprinting.
No fines.
No alcohol classes.
No action on your driver’s license.
Insurance rates stay low.

Don’t have a designated driver?
Be one yourself.  Stay sober.
Call and arrange a cab or luxury sedan service.
