Some time back, this author in e-mail correspondence with a reader made the claim that humanity has an inherent need to worship. In response I received an answer skeptically asking, Did Hitler have a need to worship?

My answer to that challenging question appears below:

Some time back, this author in e-mail correspondence with a reader made the claim that humanity has an inherent need to worship. In response I received an answer skeptically asking, Did Hitler have a need to worship?

My answer to that challenging question appears below:

*******

Hello Sharon , (Name changed)

All mankind is born with an innate need though not necessarily a desire - to worship. People must worship something; however, they may not realize - or admit if they do realize - that some of the things they do amounts to some type of worship. The reason for this is that, since the fall, because of humanity sense of guilt toward God, the need to worship has been perverted.

Though they may not realize it (or admit it, if they do) even atheists worship. They worship the "gods" of reason and humanism, which have become their idols.

As to criminals and mass killers, many of them also are "religious" in their own perverted way. Remember the Charles Manson family? Manson's followers worshiped him. He claimed he was Jesus Christ and, amazingly, they accepted him as such.

Decades ago, there was a man in Philadelphia who claimed he was God. Referring to himself as "Father Divine, he married a white

woman whom he delegated as his Virgin Bride. Divine once was a Baptist; as such he claimed to have received a revelation preacher who

Divine owned seven hotels, claiming they were his seven heavens. He once received a ticket for speeding on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The next day the media headlines read, "Father Divine places a curse on the Pennsylvania Turnpike."

For decades, thousands of people of all races believed in him. Many were highly educated people - professors, attorneys, politicians, even ministers. When he died they expected him to resurrect, but of course his body remains in its tomb.

The followers of Jim Jones also are prime examples of what can occur when people are willing to reject the scriptures and believe a lie. Over 900 of Jones' followers died with him.

As to Hitler: Hitler's need to worship was perverted into a "religion" of his own. He believed in astrology, in the Teutonic gods and other myths. Joseph Gobbles, the head of the Gestapo, had a brother who was a Catholic Bishop. Without leaving the priesthood, this brother became a high-ranking Gestapo officer.

The swastika - with its arms originally bent at right angels in the form of the Greek cross - is an ancient mystic symbol among various Native American tribes and in India (East India is Moslem) and in Persia which is now known as Iran/Iraq (Iran and Iraq also are mostly Moslems) and in Japan (many Moslems there, also) and some other nations.

The Nazis reversed the direction of the arms of the swastika to left angels and adopted it as the symbol of the Nazi Party and as its symbol of anti-Semitism.

Yes, even Hitler and his Nazis had an innate need to worship, as is evidenced by the symbols they used.

Please let me know if I've answered your query, Sharon .

Your brother in Christ Jesus,
