Here are some fabuluous gift wrapping ideas, finishing touches and bows to make your Christmas presents even more special this year.
  • Loop wire-edged bronze organza ribbon with gold edging to make a rosette secure with wire at the back. Glue a cedar cone to the center, adding a contrast in texture.
  • Cut small ovals of corrugated cardboard spray with metallic silver paint. When dry, decorate by gluing shells that have been sprayed with gold and silver metallic paint, pearls, beads, rhinestones, etc. to the cardboard. Add a bow made with flat silver cord gathered in loops.
  • Three dried thinly-sliced orange rounds glued one overlapping the other and topped with an attractive copper-colored satin or organza ribbon. Attach a piece of cinnamon stick to the center of the bow, if desired.
  • A bow made with cinnamon sticks and holly, tied with dark green mesh ribbon to enhance the outdoor theme, is lovely.
  • Bind the stems of bunches of artificial berries to a pine cone attach a large red ribbon.
  • Glue a random pattern of dried leaves to textured brown paper tie with braided raffia add loose strands of raffia tied in a bow. Top center of bow with a slice of dried orange or lime round.
  • Place gift in the center of a rectangle of gauzy, glittery fabric. Gather fabric around the gift and tie with a contrasting silk or velveteen ribbon. (i.e. gold fabric with dark green ribbon red fabric with silver ribbon) Tuck too exotic feathers the same color of the fabric under the ribbon.
  • Make gift tags using textured paper. Use gold braiding, dried flowers, sealing wax, curled ribbon, block prints, dried herbs, or stencils to decorate ribbon or brown (package) twine as a tie.
  • Draw a motif on a piece of corrugated cardboard and cut it out glue to a larger piece of cardboard. Attach an empty thread spool or piece of cork to use as a handle. Using a colored ink pad, stamp designs on the top of plain paper wrapped gifts.
  • Make your own pyramid shaped box for your gift. Use colored cardboard 21 X 21 inches mark the center of each of the four sides of the square. These four marks represent the tip of each of the four points of the star you will draw on the cardboard. Using a ruler, draw the four pointed star each point will be 7 inches long and 7 inches wide at the base. Cut out the star. Using a single-hole punch, make a hole near the top of each of the four points. Using a ruler, score the cardboard across the base of each point fold the cardboard inward along the scored lines the center of the star will be square. Place the gift in the center and fold each of the four points up to meet in the middle, forming a pyramid. Thread an 18-inch length of ribbon or gold cord through the hole and tie in a bow. If desired, use a sponge dipped in acrylic (craft) paint in a contrasting color that has been watered down to dab randomly on the pyramid box to create a design.
  • Wire-edged ribbon makes lovely large bows that never look wimpy. Choose wispy organza for glamorous gifts, or stripped taffeta for a more sophisticated bow.
  • Stationary shops carry paper ribbons in a variety of colors and textures that will add interest to gift wrappings.
  • Small economical decorations used as tree ornaments also dress up bows on packages and make them extra special.
  • Lengths of white and gold foil paper pleated, then opened into fan shapes can be used in place of a bow on gifts Place one fan overlapping the other, attached by the bottom of the fan to the package using a glue gun. Gold beads or shinny baubles with wire strung through and attached at the base of the fan adds the finishing touch!
  • Decorate the top of the package with a big green red bow attach a candy cane to the center, surrounded by a variety of wrapped candies.
  • Three different sized pom-poms made from white or ivory-colored yarn to make a snow man can be attached to the top of a package using a glue gun. Dress up the snowman anyway you like – hat, scarf, small black beads for eyes, a piece or orange yarn for the nose, etc.
