All we really have on this Earth to connect us to our Higher Power, is our inner spirit. It is connected to the divine power of God, in my opinion, and therefore, can strengthen us in our darkest hours.

If we look inward instead of out, we can connect with that inner spirit and draw peace and a sense of contentment. There are times in our life that contentment isn’t coming from outside sources. We feel empty and broken, tired and degraded, used and helpless, lonely and hopeless. We may have friends and family who comfort us and care deeply, but until we go inside, no one can resolve the fear we feel.

Our inner spirit is strong, and bright, and waiting for us to ask for the help we so desperately need. It will share it’s strength with us in our darkest hours. We need to connect and draw the positive energy it emits. Our fears can be calmed, and our mind made clear. Our decision making process needs to be sharp and coming from a source of knowledge. That source is our inner spirit. We don’t need to look up to the Heavens, or get down on bended knee. We need to feel the power within us, and let it guide us in the right direction. God isn’t far away, we don’t have to move a muscle, He is within each and every one of us.

Sometimes, trials and tribulations prevent us from remembering that we hold our own key to our life, and the inner spirit is that key. A direct line to God. Or whomever you call the Supreme Being. If we could just grab on to it, and allow it to pull us through our troubles, we wouldn’t feel so desperate. It’s not a good feeling.

Confusion and heartache and resentments and fear can be calmed through the inner spirit. It’s not easy, I often forget that my truest advisary is right inside myself, therefore I suffer, and make wrong decisions, and say the wrong things, and worry about situations and people I shouldn’t have to be worrying about.

Once I remember the warmth of the Light inside, I can get a better handle on things, and be more positive, and feel stronger, and make the right moves. Even if things don’t go the way I want, I can accept the way they are. Once I accept, then I can move on. And I am able to carry this light within, wherever I go, throughout my whole life, as long as I don’t get so wrapped up in what’s bothering me that I forget to look inside myself and speak to my very own inner spirit.

Life is not an easy place to live, actually, it’s quite hard. We all could use a little Light to warm us up and show us the way. How will the inner spirit do that? By opening up our hearts and minds and softly whispering what it is we need to do, and allowing us to think our thoughts are coming from our own resources. It’s a mixture; what we have learned, what we believe in, and the energy that guides us through. Together, there is strength and perseverance and determination to make things right.

We will still have our dark moments, but we don’t need to feel alone, our inner spirit never leaves us. The drive we need to endure difficult situations will come from that spirit. Those circumstances will still be draining and aggravating and fearful, but not as bad as if we hadn’t remembered our inner spirit within.

Susan Thom is the mother of three children, two sons, 17 and 21, and a daughter 22. Writing calms her, and gives her a place to go. By herself! Clears the head and gets it out. She lives in a rural area, with a lake and mountains, her son and her partner, and has loved writing since she was a child.

She certainly hopes you enjoy her take on life, and her style of communicating that in stories.

She has been on a journey of self discovery for twenty years, and has learned many things about the human mind, and how to maintain some semblance of calm and peace within.

If someone reads one of her stories, and relates to her feelings, and maybe gets a suggestion on how she dealt with them in a positive way, that would be the ultimate gift of her writing.
