How to apply eye makeup

"How do I make a fast smoky eye?"

The smoky eye look is eternally hot, but doing it well can be intimidating. Here's a recipe for creating a smoky eye that's super-quick and, perhaps more importantly, totally flexible to accommodate any colors that inspire you, match your mood or just make you feel gorgeous.

For materials, you'll need an eye pencil, some good brushes and two shades of eyeshadow in whatever colors you want. Just make sure that one shadow is noticeably darker than the other.

  1. Using a soft full brush, apply the lighter shade as a soft wash over your entire eyelid, from lash line to brow bone.

  1. Line your upper lid right above your lashes with pencil.

  1. Take the darker shadow and apply it to the sides of your smudge brush (that's the one with the half-moon-shaped bristles), then smudge the liner upwards and slightly outwards up to the eyelid's crease. The eye pencil and the dark eyeshadow will blend to make your eyes smoky and sexy.

  1. Finish it off with your favorite mascara and you're done!
