Holographic Models replacing stick thin real Models on NY Catwalk.

Apparently models, and the reality of the runway is in jeopardy, as the concept of holographic images are being tested out, as Target Corp, hosting their Manhattan Fashion Show next week, will run without Models, real ones that is.

This company is known for innovative change, is trying something new, they have developed a series of holograms for models, and even the runway, showcasing their maternity, women's wear, mens, and bridal clothes designed by Isaac Mizrahi and Liz Lange.

The holographic models, that won't be strutting as a size 00, are said to look real enough in a 3D effect. The virtual showcase will be viewable to the fashion industry gurus, from all over. This is the first step of probably many, toward technology replacing the human factor.

But will it wash? Will other designers follow in their footsteps?

The futuristic view of our generations to come, as we have all come to understand and accept, are what we have seen in the movies and fantasy Sci Fi worlds of holograms becoming the norm. All Sci-Fi fans would tell you, yes, that it's about time. The rest of us stand in awe and probably think, this is like in Back to the Future with Michael J. Fox, or Total Recal with Arnold S. Amazing, a little scary, but somehow it fits.

Does that mean the end to a models career? Will actors be next?

Not as long as there are magazines out there, and there are clothes, make-up and accessories to buy, fashion will always be fashion. We all need designers to give us that feel good vibe we have when we buy a new pair of shoes.

Although! I cant recall the last time there was a Super Model to celebrate. Cindy Crawford was probably one of the most popular, she is still one of the top beauties in this world. She was by far the most healthiest, and greatest role model for all the girls. With the criticism of late toward designers in the way of using stick thin models, endless times people have said that designers want the Models thin like a coat hanger, so the viewers will see the clothes not the beautiful girl. If thats true, then perhaps that's why the holograms will be of interest to designers. Some designer's feel it is time for a change, that runway days are becoming passe.

On the other hand, it makes one ask, is that really fair to the Models? Doesn't seem fair does it?

What do you think? Should the wave of the future in fashion fall privy to mere holograms? Wafer thin Models with no boundaries?

One thing to be said about the Cindy Crawford days. She was a super model, and people watched when she walked the runway, because they wanted to see her. It was about her. She earned it. Others followed and earned it as well. Its just a sad state, that it seems to be falling apart, and the fun side of the Super Model has declined.

If you want a view of the Sci-fi hologram runway showcase, it will be held next week in NY, on November 6th and 7th , in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal.

I know this might sound silly, but talking about replacing the human factor could be useful. Wouldn't it be great if all the world leaders could duke it out with the use of holographic images, like playing a video game and replace the human factor concerning victims and soldiers, with holograms? They would have to go on the honor system, like a serious poker game.. then our soldiers could come home for good.

Peace and Love

I'm an engineer studying holography, do you have any info on the company supporting or producing the holograms?

Hello Tony,

Thanks for reading my article. And to answer your question, yes I do happen to know who designed the holographic images. The Companies name is Musion Systems Limited, and as far as I know they are located in the UK. It's the same company who created the 'Gorillaz' on the European MTV Awards. They even have them with Madonna, so cool.

The technique they use to create the 3D Projections are beams of images through a high-def projector onto a piece of foil that was patented and set on an angle of the stage. The images reflect off the foil and also face the stage to create the illusion of profundity.

You can check out their website, at:
http://www.musion.co.uk/

You can also check out their Gorillaz debut on youtube at:

Hope that helped.

Thanks again, and good luck with your studies.. holographic engineering must be so much fun!
