Everybody knows that fruits are incredibly nutritious foods. – Their health benefits are widely varied and extremely potent, covering numerous different physical ailments. From preventing certain types of cancer, to enhancing energy, to helping to keep our hearts beating strong, these amazing foods have earned every bit of their good reputation. From their nutritious properties to wonderful taste, there are numerous reasons we should be including them into our diet. Here we’ll be talking about five extraordinary fruits and the amazing health benefits they have.

1. Strawberries. – These pretty red fruits are bursting with a wide variety of vitamins, but they have more Vitamin C than anything else. - In fact, one cup of strawberries exceeds the recommended daily dose of vitamin C by almost 30%! These vitamins work together to improve your energy as well as to help prevent illness. They also happen to contain a lot of antioxidants, which help to prevent premature aging by fighting off the damaging effects of free radicals. The only downside to strawberries is that they are extremely perishable, and after having been frozen for even a small amount of time, they lose nearly all of their nutritious benefits, so make sure to eat them while they’re fresh!

2.  Grapefruits are full of amazing health benefits. – They have been shown to have the ability to help in repairing damaged DNA inside of cells. This is extremely important as it shows that grapefruits have the ability to help in preventing several types of cancer from developing. Grapefruits also help the body process food much more efficiently by reducing the amount of insulin in the blood, which helps your body process more energy from the food it takes in. – This can also help in losing weight! They have also been shown in helping reduce cholesterol levels, which of course strengthens the heart. So toss some sugar in your grapefruit and eat it for breakfast. – You’ll be happy you did!

3. Pineapples have a wonderfully distinct taste, and as can be guessed by their acidic flavoring, are rich in Vitamin C. Pineapples are actually rich in a variety of different minerals and vitamins such as potassium and fiber that can help you have more energy, and keep you safe from sickness. While we’re talking sickness, pineapples contain bromelain. This allows them to help fight off colds by way of vitamin C as well as soothing your throat, reducing coughing, and keeping mucus from building up and becoming thick.  In addition to day-to-day health, pineapples play a key role in the development and upkeep of healthy bones. They are rich in manganese, which is a substance that is used by the body to build firmer, stronger bones, and can help prevent bone-related diseases.

4. We’ve all heard the old adage that “An Apple a day keeps the doctor away!” Apples have been the symbol of good nutrition for a very long time, and with good reason. Apples can do many things for the body, including acting as anti-inflammatory agents, anti-carcinogens, and even anti-allergens. All of these properties really can help you avoid the doctor! On top of that, apples are also plentiful sources of flavanoids. These are very potent anti-oxidants, which will help fight off those pesky free radicals and keep you looking youthful and healthy. Apples also help fortify our cells, enabling them to ward off the development of cancer.

5. Avocados. – The avocado is an often-overlooked fruit, which is extremely unfortunate because they’re jam packed with all sorts of nutritious benefits. Avocados contain tocopherols and carotenoids, which, when consumed together, can help to prevent prostate and breast cancer. – But avocados are probably best known for their heart health benefits! These tasty green fruits are one of the very few to contain a monounsaturated fat that actually can help to reduce cholesterol levels, as well as containing a large amount of potassium and folate. – These nutrients help to regulate blood pressure and keep your heart strong!

We all know that fruits are good for us, but the amazing benefits of these delicious foods should prompt us all to make sure and add them to our diet. They are easy to find, and are among the most versatile foods on the planet, leaving no excuse for leaving them out of a meal. Health benefits aside, they also add the perfect flavoring and attitude to any dish!
