Who ever said you can’t buy everything on eBay, has got to read this article. An unbelievable sale went through last week, and it all started with a sleepy old western town in Texas. The town, called Albert, went up for auction on eBay, and the owner of the estate, who reserved the price at 2.5 million, didn’t actually expect it to go, but it did, for 3.8 cool million.

Albert is the name of the town, and it sits about 62 miles (100 klms) outside of San Antonio. The owner and real estate dealer, Bobby Cave, told the PA news that he was checking out the legitimate means of the buyer, as there are no obligations when it comes to real estate. However, if the deal falls through he sounds confident that he has plenty of others interested in the property. He said he originally bought the property with the aspirations of creating a family camp ground, but after three years decided it was time to work on other projects.

If you are interested in buying yourself a town, keep an eye out on eBay. The town of Albert went on eBay, under heritage homes, and coincidentally that’s not the first town to be sold on eBay. Bridgeville in North California went for sale on eBay back in the year 2002, and the winning bid came in at 2.5 million, although the bidder didn’t follow through. In 2003, the property was listed again, at which about 250 bids went up for a starting bid at $775,000, and no real buyers. The town’s owner, Elizabeth Lapple, then asked for $850,000 for the 82-acre property, set among redwoods about 270 miles northwest of San Francisco and about 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The town, which dates to the early 1900s, included a post office, a mile and a half of river bank, a cemetery and more than a dozen cabins and houses.

Who bought the Texan Ghost Town of Albert?

An Italian collector, who has remained nameless.

If he is a serious bidder, what would he get for his cool 3.8 million?

A feisty 84 year old dance floor, an icehouse made from the frame of an old general store, a pavilion, a tractor shed, and a three bedroom house, all sitting on 5 hectares of land, picturesque with Pecan and peach Orchards. Population, the real estate man, and a grounds keeper on the weekends.

Throw in a pool boy, and I’m game. (smiles)

What other exotic sales are happening on eBay?

If you are the adventurous 'John Connor' or 'Mad Max' of the future types, or maybe one of the 'down into the bunker we go' types, a 20th Century Castle might just be the hot piece of real estate that's perfect for you, (the link is provided at the end of this article).

What is a 20th Century Castle?
It's actually a US missile base.

Back in September, a former US intercontinental ballistic missile base went up for auction eBay for 1.2 million.

The base came with it’s own network of underground tunnels, silos, sorry no nuclear warheads, or any weapons of any kind. The empty shell sits on 56 acres, with it’s own lovely barbed wired fence, and the description included words such as ‘gorges’, and ‘make your own retreat’. You’d never have to worry about things like nuclear explosions, or atomic bombs.

How did that happen?

A little history.

Back in the 1970’s after the US government deemed the Titan missiles as obsolete, which is what the missile launch station was built for, so the station had no further use, and was sold off to the public, among 18 other missile stations. According to the owner, this one was the hugest big daddy of them all, in Washington State. About 10 years ago a fella named Bari Hotchkiss bought it, and he reportedly he told news agency AFP, that he used the station as a family retreat, lending it to friends and family. Bari indicated that the other stations were much smaller, and suffered major deteriorations over the years, he said the Cold War era technology was stripped out by the military and it would take millions to fix it up.

The 20th Century Castles, which lay underground, in the form of tunnels, silos ect.. are for sale on this site, so far they sold 57 stations. Want to check out their official site, and see them for yourself, check out their link.
