The man most notably known for being beaten by policemen on the Los Angeles Police Department back in 1991 is once again making the news. This time, it is reported King sustained superficial facial wounds from a gunshot.

The wounds were not life threatening as King was able to ride home on a bicycle before calling to report his injury and this incident to authorities. The incident is alleged to have happened on Wednesday night in San Bernardino and King lives in Rialto. The distance is approximately five miles, which could very well seem like an eternity under stressful conditions.

One report says after the police arrived at King’s home, he along with others appeared to be intoxicated. That report did not confirm whether consumption was made before or after the shooting.

If you recall:

  • Four officers were charged with assault with a deadly weapon and excessive use of force but were acquitted of state charges on April 29, 1992.
  • The three days of rioting that followed left 55 people dead and 2,000 injured. There were 12,000 arrests and about $1 billion in property damage in Los Angeles.
  • Two of the officers, Sgt. Stacey Koon and officer Laurence Powell, were later convicted of federal civil rights violations.

King is expected to recover just fine. He has had other run-ins with authorities since making headlines in 1991.

As we enter the holiday season, King’s words echo in my mind, heart and soul. It is my desire for Peace and Goodwill among all men. I, too, wish we would “all just get along.”

Avis,
It is so nice to hear from you. It is amazing that a man named Rodney, who is an alcoholic, shiftless human being made such a powerful statement that affected all of us so deeply. Take care and have a wonderful holiday season.

James, thank you and it's always nice to have you make comments on my articles. You and the comments are appreciated and very much respected. I agree, a powerful statement coming from King serves to prove (in my humble opinion) Christ living in each of us. It's up to us to access His presence and let Him reign in our lives. You take special care and enjoy a lovely holiday season, as well. Thank you for your best wishes.

Perhaps Avis, it was us as a people who drove him to those acts of violence. I also remember after he made the statement "Can't we just get along" he said "for the little children" maybe some day we will overcome as long as there is a tomorrow there is hope.

David, perhaps we as a people are responsible however, there are nonviolent pathways to solve issues. You've written much about another King, Rev. M.L. King, Jr., and the greatest King of all, Jesus Christ, illustrated violence is not the answer. We must take responsibility for ourselves as it's too easy to blame "we as a people." Wouldn't you agree, David? Like you, there is hope for tomorrow. I believe in a better day and am thankful for this day. Thank you for reading and commenting. Always, Avis.

Avis, according to the Bible the only time Jesus used violence was when his church was turned into a market place. Today many churches are used for beano halls where men and women go to gamble. I believe some of the violence in our country is motivated by the Lord to fight evil. Just my personal opinion

Thanks David and I respect your opinion, highly! It is my understanding Jesus was angry, yes, and perhaps violently angry even, when the temple was turned into a marketplace; but He did not use violence. The bible tells us we can be angry but must not sin. (Eph 4:26-27) A very interesting opinion on why some violence is used in our country. One thing I do know: "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28) You can know David, how much I appreciate your comments.
