Faux wood blinds are constructed from a range of materials and are intended to appear like several finishes of authentic wood. Some of these blinds are constructed using blends of vinyl polymers and real particles or composites of wood. Depending on the finish used, they may also appear like real wooden blinds, but without the extravagant price.

While it's true that faux wood blinds for windows are less pricey than their authentic counterparts, is this cheaper alternative actually worth the additional savings? Here are some benefits and drawbacks of buying faux wood blinds in your home.

Advantages of Faux Wood Blinds

- Real wood is prone to temperature fluctuations and may misshape over time with exposure to the weather. Whereas faux wood blinds can be used in kitchens and bathrooms without worrying about extreme heat, humidity and moisture. Faux wood blinds are usually very long-lasting and do not crack, split, or warp.
- Faux wood blinds may last longer than authentic wood and are of course less pricey than those made from authentic wood. They also help to save money over time by needing less replacements.
- Faux wood blinds are easy to clean and stain-resistant. Many of them are also resistant to yellowing or fading over time. Most blinds can be cleaned using soap and water.
- Faux wood blinds can be found with slats of different sizes and work all right in just about any type of room.

Disadvantages of Faux Wood Blinds

- Certain models of faux wood blinds may weigh twice as much as blinds made from wood and are substantially harder to lift and position into place. Furthermore, the heavier the blind, the more ladders it will need, which may obstruct the view when the blinds are opened.
- Some lower-end faux wood blinds may gradually sag or regularly need their strings, or ladders as they are called, completely replaced.
- Color selection is limited with faux wood blinds, which cannot be re-stained or painted.
- Faux wood blinds may lack the genuine appeal of authentic wood, depending on the location and overall theme of the home.

Average Prices of Faux Wood Blinds

The prices of faux wood blinds depends on the size of the windows, including the length and width and how many you'll need to order. When comparison shopping, be sure to have the exact measurements on hand, as well as the number of windows that need done so you'll have a better projection of your eventual outlay.

For single windows found in bedrooms, living and dining areas, faux wood blinds may cost anywhere from $30 or $40 and up based on their width and length. Color may also influence the price, as well as whether or not the blinds are being specially ordered, or bought pre-cut to size.
