Chihuahua training is neither impossible nor hard as long as the dog trainer is equipped with ideas on how to do it. Since dogs vary according to breed, there training methods and approach vary also. An approach suited to a Chihuahua may not always applicable to Basset Hound dogs. Training method to be used is usually based on the characteristics and temperament of a certain breed.

While a Chihuahua is considered as the smallest breed of dog in the world, that doesn't make them less trainable dogs. With their curious nature, they can easily adapt to new environment and learn new lessons taught to them. Using right training approach is your tool for fast and easy Chihuahua training.

During training, always bear in mind the size of your dog. Since they are so small, using leash or choke collars in training may harm their trachea when it is pulled too hard against their throat. To minimize throat problems, using harness is safer.

One of the widely talked dog training topic is about giving of punishment or being cruel to your dog. As punishment for every mistake committed or being disobedient to commands given, some dog owners already formed a habit of yelling and spanking their pets in the rear. This is done in the hopes of making the animal understand that what he did is wrong.

This is one of the most common lapses of dog owners even before. Hurting or punishing the dog physically won't do good. In fact, it will just add to the situation. Physically abused dogs may develop not just physical problems but also psychological.

The use of electronic shock and collars are great aid in making Chihuahua training easy. However, some people argue that these electronic shocks and collars can hurt a dog. But how come this thing happen when veterinarians and dog experts are also using and even recommending the use of these electronic devices? One simple reason to this dilemma is the proper usage of the device. Electronic devices when misused inflict pain and causes damage to a dog. So as a remedy, before using something to your dog, you should first understand what the device is capable of doing. Know its advantages and disadvantages and formulate or learn ways on how you are going to use it without causing so much pain to your Chihuahua.

However, if you are not sure of the device, it is advisable to settle for the meantime with the widely used reward or positive reinforcement in training. All dogs are dying to catch their owner's attention and care so this surely helps. Though it may not be as modern or can make training fast compared to electronic devices, you can be very sure that your dog will have no chance to experience pain.

Whatever method you choose, it is important to understand first the nature of that approach, how they are going to affect your dog and if it is really suitable to be used as his training tool.
