It seems every day I become a little angrier. Incidents compound themselves and never seem to come to a justifiable conclusion. I watch, in amazement, the idiotic actions of our country’s leaders and other influential and supposedly educated people. I ponder their reasons for such actions and decisions that affect so many lives and I sometimes believe they must live in a different dimension than I do. I have even gotten to the point that I almost believed that something must be wrong with me because “I just don’t get it."

North Carolina just passed a law making it mandatory to allow illegal immigrants into their colleges. What part of illegal don’t they understand? I just don’t get it.

I live in South Carolina and have an 8-year-old daughter. The school buses are so disruptive and filled with violence that we decided to spend several hours driving her back and forth to school 15 miles away. They are raising school taxes for new buses that we refuse to use, as do many others here. Why not place monitors on the busses so the behaved children can ride in safety? They are aware of the problems. I just don’t get it.

This year my homeowners insurance rose 400%. I have never made a homeowners claim. The insurance company I use has boasted profits in the billions. Why is there no regulation on their profits, or discounts for never claiming? I’m sure many lobbyists and politicians are reaping nice profits from their stocks as they rape Middle America. How much profit does a company need to make? I just don’t get it.

Lets look at the gas companies. Their profits are through the roof, almost unimaginable. The price, at times, has almost crippled our country yet; the government does nothing for price gouging. I suppose there must be some pretty healthy stock dividends going into some ones pocket. I just don’t get it.

Lets talk the prison system. Cable TV, weight rooms, movies, heat and a/c, free medical and dental, lawsuits entertained by the courts against them, early parole for pedophiles, and special treatment for celebrities. I just don’t get it.

Welfare. Who the hell figured that one out? Now there is a racket for sure. I really don’t get that.

Why in the world would someone want to take the morality of religion from our government and judicial system? That’s the ideology that our country was founded on. Geez, I just don’t get it.

Do you know a retired person, who has worked all their lives and paid taxes only to end up not being able to afford their life sustaining medication or even decent food? Am I missing something here? I just don’t get it.

Here’s another: the banks, the mortgage companies and the credit card companies. Their motto must have been modeled from the Vikings but with a twist, “ lets pass on the pillaging and plundering and get right to the raping." Let’s over charge the poor and make sure we put them in enough debt to bury them. What a great business plan, I guess, but: I just don’t get it.

Why is it when I pay my car payment, I pay $15.00 on the principle and $300.00 on the interest so that when I go to trade it in, I’m so far in the hole, I owe more than its worth. Oh! Wait a minute, now I got it. Now the finance company can carry over the remainder on to my new car and do the same thing over and over and over. Hummmm…very clever! Why is that legal? You know, they don’t even kiss me when the deal is done. I just don’t get it.

Why don’t you have to use photo ID when you use a credit card. Wouldn’t that stop a lot of credit card fraud? Duhhh!  I just don’t get it.

Why is it that when a Kangaroo, in Australia, breaks wind, the price of oil in Saudia Arabia goes up? I just don’t get it.

Lord, now I’m just rambling and it’s gotta end, but I still don’t get it and I guess I never will.

Hi Gary, umm... I don't get it. :-) I agree! things are crazy in this world, upside down and backward. But one of these days, it will be as it should be. God Bless you, Judi and your sweet little girl! Teresa

Gary, I don't get it either. The things you mentioned are considered 'signs and wonders' found in the bible. Christ, our soon coming King is the answer. We're living in 'end-times.' Things will get worse before they improve. I'm sorry you and your family have been struggling to provide the best for each other. When children and the elderly suffer, I really get ticked-off by the things you mentioned. I can assure you, Gary, if your wife were not a God-fearing woman, things would have been worse. She's a remarkable woman and I know you are very aware of that! A Merry Christmas to you and your family, sir. Blessings!

Gary, I'm right there with you. I was going another direction with this comment, but as I wrote the first sentence, I got a call from the phone company's satisfaction department, I'm assuming for a recent repair. After identifying the company the recording immediately went to Spanish. I don't get that either! Is this still America?

I don't get it either and appaentlly either does anyone else. Is this the land of opportunity that our forefathers fought for? I wonder what they all would think if they were here today.

It is the people "who do get it" that we have to watch out for. The well adjusted citizens in society are the sick who control our lives. I don't have the answers I just try to put up with the fools.

hi gary,
you are not the only one who doesn't get it.
a bomb was placed on one of the school buses recently, but it was a dud, thank God. there was an evacuation so they could make sure they got all the kids far away from the school should a bomb scare take place, or God forbid, an actual bomb. drugs run the halls. this i found out once my middle child had graduated, too bad i still have one child in that school. lawyers have charged my soon to be ex and i over 25,000, and we are no closer to an agreement then we were at the beginning, except for the judge telling my lawyer (woman judge) she would force the sale of our house because i wrote a story about soulmats, and it wasn't my husband-too bad it was when i was 19, and i am now 51. i just don't get it! he left in the middle of the night to live with his girlfriend out of state! oh, i can be granted alimony, but no house, or a house, and no alimony. i just don't get it. thanks for a good article, you are not alone in your thoughts,
best regards,
sue thom

Thanks for this article which gives me hope. You see, sometimes I think I am the only one who "just doesn't get it" but low and behold, there are others!

Gary, I agree with most of your points, especially those about the illegal immigrants, prisons, and credit cards. I wonder about most of the same stuff myself. One thing I don't agree with is all the whining about "price gouging" and corporate profits. Either we have capitalism in this country or we don't. If we don't, then let's switch over to socialism and be done with it. If I own something (whether a limited resource or not), I should be allowed to charge whatever I want for it. Likewise, corporations should be allowed to make as much profit as they want. I guess that's just my libertarianism coming out.
