New Year is approaching closer and closer. It’s only 20 days left till New Year! You can say it’s 20 more days left, but they will pass so quickly in holiday turmoil. New Year and Christmas are the favorite holidays of children and grown up. We all live in expectation of miracles. We start to believe in Santa Clause and fairy tales. We watch old kind cinema and look for presents for all we love and those we hardly bear but … New Year and Christmas is the time when we love everybody and even those we don’t love the rest time of the year. New Year makes miracle and people become better and kinder :-)
We try to finish all projects and businesses. We ask pardon and forgive. We give promises and get rid of bad habits. We believe that New Year brings more luck, success, love and good moments. We hope New Year will be much better than preceding.
You see so many things to do and only 20 days left!
It seems as if people always celebrate New Year on January 1.
But In Old Russia people celebrated New Year on the 1st of March. It was connected with spring and reborn of nature. In spite of the fact that in 1343 Moscow Cathedral issued a new decree of celebrating New Year on September 1 people went on celebrating New Year on March 1 for more than 150 years after that.
The tradition of celebrating New Year on January 1 was introduced by Peter The Great. Peter the First traveled a lot in Europe and after coming back to Russia he started to break old rules and issued new laws. The most famous issue was Celebrating New Year on January 1. On 1699 He ordered to decorate houses with fir and pine branches, to have fun and congratulate each other with New Year.
Since that time we celebrate New Year on the first of January and decorate small fir tree.
Mandarins, New Year tree, champagne and Russian salad “Olivie" are essential part of New Year for most Russian Families. We prepare to great feast: cook delicious dishes, invite relatives and friends and have fun all night long. At night people go out to the streets to make fireworks, play snowballs and slide on hills.
