This time of year can be as stressful as trying to match a year old pile of "mystery" colored socks in your laundry room. Along with the wind and snow, there are circumstances swirling all around you trying to steal your precious Christmas joy. Things like having to elbow your way through crowded malls with clenched teeth, sparkling credit card temptations, hours spent driving around full parking lots like a hungry shark, losing on your e-bay auction, watching your neighbor's decorations go up first, and of course getting that first Christmas card before you've even finished your Thanksgiving leftovers.
Here are some fun activities to do with your kids that will help conserve some of the JOY that you want in your home this Christmas Season.
1) Laugh.. Tell Christmas jokes. Your 6-12 year-olds will love these.
What goes ho-ho whoosh, ho-ho whoosh?
Santa caught in a revolving door!
What do you call an old snowman?
Water!
When does Christmas come before Thanksgiving?
In the dictionary!
What's the difference between the Christmas alphabet and the ordinary alphabet?
The Christmas one has no L (noel)!
2) Watch Christmas movies together like the Polar Express.. The Grinch who stole Christmas, and the Charlie Brown Christmas special.
3) Read a different Christmas Children's book each night.(Check them out free at your local library).
4) Celebrate Advent together.
5) Count down to Christmas with an advent calendar or put a sticker on each day of the month as you count down.
6) Attend a Christmas event together like a live Nativity at a church or the Nutcracker Ballet.
7) Decorate your house together for Christmas. Play Christmas carols, drink hot chocolate and decorate the tree.
8) Bake Cookies together!
9) SPREAD THE JOY Together. Pack a Christmas stocking for a soldier, deliver home-made goodies to your neighbors, or go Christmas Caroling. 10)
10) Read the Biblical account of Jesus's birth in Luke 1: 26-28

Hi Kathy, love the jokes :-) I had to laugh when you mentioned the "mystery" socks - I have a laundry basket full of socks! I don't know what it is, but they go in together, but they don't make it out together... :-)

Well, Kathy, as I read down your list I had to pat myself on the back! I did all the things you mentioned, including counting down to Christmas with the Advent Calendar on the fridge. I guess I was a good Mama! And for my birthday? Well, I have this big old medallion-type pin that says, "It's my birthday! Where's my presents?" Ha! I started wearing it a week before my birthday so they couldn't forget. It's a standing joke in our house, now, and a funny tradition.
