I can't tell you how many New Years I have lived through humming the song Aud Lang Syne. The song is a song that stays in your heads days after the New Years celebration. Of course, the only reason why I hum is because I have no clue of the words.
The good news is that most celebrations involve a lot of alcohol so no one really notices, but it is kind of annoying the next day having the song stuck in my head and not knowing the lyrics.
So what are the lyrics anyway? This year I did a little research and here are the lyrics:
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you'll buy your pint cup!
And surely I'll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine (dinner time) ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
And there's a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o' thine !
And we'll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS
So this year, I will be singing with the rest of the world and for the first time I will not stumble across the words humming obnoxiously in place of the real words. Happy New Year!
