Christmas Eve, the night before Christmas, brings on more anticipation than the night before final exams in college or the seventh game of the World Series or the Super Bowl. Holy Jesus Christ really started something big. Trying to get a picture or videos of the exact birth place spot of the Christ Child, on the inter net, is very difficult. You can get the feeling in the air and in the hearts of many folks you come in contact with though. This is especially so the last very few days before Christmas Day. It is clearly the one yard line to Christmas Day.
Many people I have known over the years are more concerned with quality than quantity when it comes to gift giving and spending money. My life experience has shown that it is more satisfying to get and give gifts that solve a problem or fill a need. No matter how low the cost. For example; the humble hay filled stable where Baby Jesus was born did not cost much. It did solve a problem and fill a need though. Big time.
Spending too much money makes us feel stressed out when we are cash low and credit card over drawn in January when we see our credit card bills that come in the mail. This truly spoils the lasting memories of Christmas Day we love and want to cherish literally forever. Don't you think?
Do you recall seeing those National Guard ads on TV around this time of year? You know! The ones that say relax a little because the National Guard is on guard and protecting you. I know a lot of people now who have been, on call, in the National Guard for years. Some have gone active in wars and skirmishes and some have not.
If you feel a little guilty about not being able to help them there are different areas on the inter net where you can help them a little to show them thanks for giving up their time and sometimes blood for you. One source gives hobby kits for badly injured veterans from independent contributions. Another provides tent air conditioners to troops in very hot countries. Another provides neck scarves to ward off the heat in very hot climates like Afghanistan, Iraq and other areas to give more comfort under very difficult circumstances.
If you are alone on Christmas Day there are some things you can do to make yourself feel better and make Jesus more proud of you. Write a short letter to someone who has hurt or done something wrong to you telling them you totally and unconditionally forgive them. Send some Christmas cards to nice people who have sent you Christmas Day cards but you did not intend to send them any.
Call someone you love or like, who is good to you, and thank them and tell them you like or love them for what they have done for you in the past and let them go. Just this short powerful message will help you and them a lot. Write or send a short letter of thank you to a friend or relative who is dear to you and put it in the mail. This will knock their socks off and they will love and cherish it, like the Congressional Medal of Honor, forever. Trust me on this one.
Lastly, take some pictures or videos, if you can, of nice things that happen today. Then, when you are relatively alone, recall powerful emotional experiences you had beginning from your first memories of life on Christmas Day. For example, when I was small, the first glimpse of the ornament, tinsel, lighted, angel hair shiny Christmas tree early in the morning with presents and brothers and sisters around was just about the most beautiful Christmas memory there ever was for me. Humble though the presents were the Jesus feeling of happiness was imprinted forever.
When I walked my Beagle dog this morning, a fairly long ways, only two cars passed us for the whole long walk. In Vietnam for two Christmases, years ago, the feeling of the strength of Jesus was very prevalent as everything was quiet as both sides laid down their arms for some peace and quiet for one day. You could hear the peace and powerful spiritual quiet in the air big time. No shots, no hate.
The first Christmas in Vietnam was noisier because the Communists tried to catch us napping. Unknown to them though we Christian and Jewish troops had a love of life, freedom and our fellow Americans that was and is very strong. We had anticipated the furious attacks the enemy might pull on us and were prepared. Our love of freedom and Americans was too much for them. They should have picked another day to assault us. I forgive them though.
Merry Christmas to you all forever and God speed. May this and every Christmas be special to you forever. May all your Christmas dreams come true. May Jesus be in your hearts, spirits and minds forever.
