Is read the fine print, ethical, moral, or is it just plain Ethical Relativity?
Ok, we have all received those flyers by the local car dealerships that offer you amazing terms on the purchase of a vehicle but then on the bottom is a very fine printed paragraph or two, explaining what they don't want you to necessarily know but are required to print. The law does not say you have to be able to actually read it, just that it is printed.
Of course we can throw in all the credit card companies, purchases, services, financial institutions, legal documents and whatever else you must sign to do anything and you understand quite well what I am speaking to.
Ok, so what does that really tell us about the people we do business with or interact with? Well in my opinion it says a hell of a lot. Quite frankly, in my opinion of course, it says they really don't want us to know, as Paul Harvey states "the rest of the story". Perhaps the rest of the story doesn't matter to many but we can certainly understand it just might and you just might not like what it has to say.
Well many will say it is just part of doing business. Then again should something happen that does not favor them they will give you the proverbial:
1- Have you read your contract?
2- Did you read the fine print?
Yes, my good friends, even our congress is considering new laws to educate us all about the dangers of "fine print" in the contract. No, nothing about ethics, morality, honesty and straight forward talk that I know of in any new laws. No, nothing about simple language. In my opinion that tells me about their qualities as well.
Well, evidently we should make an assumption that we need a lawyer for every business transaction and anytime you do business and it just might be prudent that you will now have to submit it for review prior to signing. I don't know about you but that to me speaks to trust. Yes, you do remember trust don't you, or is that no longer an option? Trust, one thought, is for honest people. Yes, do you actually remember those types, or don't you? Remember those people who put out their hand, shake and deliver. People who stand behind what they sell and profess. Oh, I'm sorry, I'm just being an idealist again.
Well enough said on the entire topic. It is all a bunch of elephant dung to me and quite frankly many are not evidently interested. That is like I say, until they have a problem. Well, I'm sorry but you better get used to the new ethics and morality of business. As our Congress says and may recommend that perhaps we all need to go to school and get educated on reading the fine print and perhaps putting a lawyer on retainer to protect our interests. Especially if you have eye problems or color problems reading that fine print.
So in place of "let the buyer beware" perhaps we should say let the buyer bend over. My apologies for those who take this physical action, which seems quite normal these days, in any other way then a normal body movement and in fine print. You see I was hoping you wouldn't notice that line.
So, as they say "See Ya"!
