Health professionals and researchers are closing in on a cure for diabetes. In fact, scientists in Canada have cured the diabetes in mice and hope to begin testing these same treatments on human beings in the next one or two years. According to a report from CBS's The Early Show medical correspondent, Dr. Emily Sen, inslet cell transplantation may be able to provide a cure for type 1 diabetes. Inslet cells are those that the pancreas uses to make insulin. Inslet cells are destroyed in persons with Type 1 diabetes. To combat this, inslet cell transplants have already begun and it is working to cure some patients.
Cary Climate, 50 years old, is one of the lucky individuals who has received the inslet transplants. Diagnosed in 1960, he was told if he just took his insulin shots then he would be fine. In 1970, complications began to arise. This is around the time he started developing complications and doctors began to fear for his life. Doctors were not sure that he would ive past thirty years old. He began receiving inslet transplants and began to recover and thrive. Using a catheter, new cells are placed in the liver. These transfusions have proven to be very successful. In fact, doctors are experiencing a 80% success rate with the transplant patients. Individuals receiving inslet cells no longer have to use insulin. It goes without saying that this is a major breakthrough for Type 1 diabetics.
A type 2 Diabetes Cure depends mostly on reversing the disease with diet, exercise and weight-loss out. This is quite encouraging. Anyone in this community looking to cure or reverse Type 2 diabetes should speak with their physician and adopt an exercise plan, eat better and lose weight, all keys to curing Type 2 diabetes. However, some individuals will never be cured of Type 2 diabetes. When this happens, medication will have to be continued as needed. All diet, exercise, and weight loss plans should be approved by one's doctor.
