Perhaps the oldest recorded instance of archery tournaments dates to about the year 1673 AD when a tournament by the name of 'Ancient Scorton Arrow' was formed in England in Yorkshire, which till date is the oldest tournament still being held in present times and for which there are many names of archery teams or clubs entered to take part in the tournament. Some years later, the Royal Company of Archers began to indulge in what was then called '

Clout Archery' that required use of longbows to shoot a target of about thirty one inches in diameter placed roughly one hundred eighty yards away.

Later, the First Tournament of the National Archery Association came about in Chicago, and by the year 1896 AD, the Olympic Games of modern times came to be held in Greece.

International Archery Federation The International Archery Federation came into existence in 1931 and ten years later an archer by the name of Larry Hughes won the American National Championships using aluminum arrows. And, the Teams Event was added to the Olympic Games in 1988. it is thus quite interesting to learn about the names of archery teams or clubs so that one can join up or even keep track with the latest in archery.

Among the many names of archery teams or clubs, one may find mention of California Archery that was formed in 2005 whose intention was to provide opportunities to students to get to know archery for recreation as well as competition. With twenty five team members, the name of this archery team may hog the limelight if it manages to win the California State Indoor Archery Championships in January 2007.

Another one of the names of archery teams or clubs that deserves to be known is that of Stanford Archery team that has dominated the Pacific Coast Archery Championships at collegiate division level and took gold medals and also had its member Michelle Marco shoot the maximum in women's collegiate division, and on the men's side there was Keith Coleman who won top honors.

The Stanford Archery team came into existence in 2000 and with more interest as well as availability of funds, it is now a team that is to be reckoned with in the Western parts of America, and it is expected to vie for top honors in U.S. National Indoor Championships as well as U.S. Inter-Collegiate Archery Championships not to forget other main competitions in the region.

Among the clubs which figure in the names of archery teams or clubs is a club known as Brule Archery Club that holds shoot nights each Thursday in the period June through July and members are allowed to shoot on all nights from Thursday onwards till the end of the week.

I hope this gives you a little idea into some clubs and how they came about.
