There is no point in having an excellent looking website if nobody ever visits it. The website therefore needs to be search engine friendly. The web designer needs spend a little bit of time before deciding which description and meta tags to have for the site. The key words and key phrases of the site should all, if possible, appear on the homepage of the website, this will help the major search engines to locate the site. The higher rankings the site has; the more sales and queries the site will gain.

The website should be easy on the eye and easy to navigate. The majority of the content should be unique as well as of interest to the people who are likely to visit the site.

All links should be active and live, a broken link not only says something about the site; it can also say something about the company.

A good website will have a contact page; this should include an e-mail address, phone number and a postal address.

If the site is advertising a product then an ability to buy on line is essential.

These are a starting point for any website; it is then time to think about the best ways of promoting the site. I will write about this subject in another article.
