Getting Married? Overwhelmed by all the decisions and the outrageous costs? I can help! Here are a couple of ideas for beautiful centerpieces that would cost you your budget.
Smoke and Mirrors: This is very simple and very elegant look. Simply place a mirrored placemat or even a mirrored tile on each guest table.
Then place an odd number of candles (probably 3 or 5) on top of the mirror. The candles can be pillar candles of different heights or if you prefer candlestick holders, choose holders of different heights and use the long candlesticks. Choose a color that is neutral or one that complements your colors. Do not get heavily scent candles! This will distract from dinner!
Finally if you want a little more festivity, sprinkle rose petals around the mirror.
For the Wedding party table. You can do the same thing, only use more candles and consider even putting these onto stands to give them height.
Where to find it: You can usually find the placemat at a home decor store (like Trends and trees or hobby lobby) or the tiles at a Home store (like Lowes or Home Depot). The candles do not need to be expensive. Go to a Wal-mart or other discount store to see what you can find. For the petals, simply call a florist and ask if they have any aging roses that you could purchase at a discount. They should be happy to have something to do with these roses that are starting to brown. Just pull off the browning petals and use the rest. Or if you don't want the expensive of real petals, purchase some fake rose petals while you're at the home decor store. Put it all together and you have an elegant table setting!
Living in a Fish Bowl Can't have candles in your reception hall? This might work for you instead. Place 10-12in glass bowl, usually used for floral arrangements (kind of looks like a fish bowl). in the center of each Guest table. In the bowl place decorative rocks/stones and fill with water.
Choose some open flowers (not buds) that complement your bouquet choice by using similar family of flowers and/or similar colors. Cut the stem so it is less than an inch long. Place just a few flowers in each bowl; you don't want to over crowd. (If you can use candles, a couple of floating candles here add a nice touch!).
For the Wedding party table, we will use your wedding bouquet. Select a tall clear vase that is a little shorter than your bouquet( not including stems). Once you arrive at your table, place your bouquet in this vase. It keep your bouquet fresh and out of the way. If you have a particularly long table, you can purchase long clear containers and fill them the same as the bowls above. Place these along the front edge of the table on either side of the bouquet vase.
Where to find it: You can usually find the bowls and the stones at a home decor store (like Trends and trees or Michaels) or go to a Wal-mart or other discount store to see what you can find. They do not need to be expensive. For the flowers, try a superstore or even a Costco/Sams for the cheapest flowers. You can sometimes find a florist outlet where you can get great deals. Or if you don't want the expensive of real flowers, purchase some fake flowers while you're at the home decor store.
