Dedicated to My Funny Valentines
A Valentine's Day Special
Boy Friends and Girl Friends are inevitable as you get older. You'll either be, are, or started long ago, feeling attraction towards a boy or girl. You learned all about the birds and the bees, most of it from school, usually before you're too young to understand what they're talking about.. hopefully if you're reading this article, you're at the age where you're mature enough to have a sweetheart.
Love is a special thing we all share in life. It's a special gift humans have, and some animal cultures, a sharing our outpouring of emotion, that's returned. You love your mom, your dad, your brother.. but what about Boyfriends? (Girl)
Peer pressure isn't a good reason to get a boyfriend, and if you're in that stage, take a step back, and go elsewhere and enjoy life. You don't need a boyfriend just because your friends do, or your friends want to, or brag they do. When the time is right, you'll connect with someone, create a special bond, usually starting with friendship, and if handled maturely, it can be a lasting relationship, boyfriend (girl) or not.
For those in a serious boyfriend girlfriend relationship, this Valentines Day, you might want to take the time to show your sweetheart how much you care. You share a special part of your life with your sweetheart, you show them support, caring, encouragement, validation and pick them up when they're feeling down. In retrospect a boyfriend (girl) becomes your confident, your best friend. Even in marriage, you best friend, trusted advisor, and the one who stands by you, is your mate, your spouse, for all the days of your life.
Fairytales.
Now that's not part of boyfriend, marriage or life. It's a story, a romantic uplifting emotionally challenging story geared to keep the life of romance alive. Romance fairytales, (at which I am an expert, as I write them) are there to emotionally satisfy the reader, and take them away to an exotic place, set anywhere in time, with any amount of elements, beaming with emotional rollercoasters, baiting the reader to cheer on our heroes. Fairytales, with Princesses, and handsome Prince Charmings, wasn't exactly a mistake for history to create, they were actually stories that were passed down from generations that had some truth to it. There just aren't as many castles, Queens and Kings around as there used to be, including Pharaohs, and the entire medieval culture is fascinating to us, because it's a time that we will never witness and will never be repeated.
Heroes
For the modern day heroes we need to look a little more closely. The boyfriend, girlfriend syndrome is what drives us all, to live, love and prosper. Knowing if your partner and you are compatible is vital during the teaming up stages of a relationship. The way you are at 21, excited about what life has to offer you, excited to be having your first drink at a bar.. to all the new things you are trying, by the time you're 31, you've seen a lot, did a lot, and nine times out of ten feel differently about life, like different things, (probably new things you've learned along the way) and usually that's why people land in divorce by the time they are 30. They changed. Their spouse changed. That's life, you live, you learn, and you grow. Sometimes you grow apart, sometimes you grow together. That's why it's wise not to marry too quickly, not to let all of your emotions cloud your judgement, try growing with that person, and see if they needs and wants are changing in the same direction as yours. If they aren't, maybe you both need a break, to see what else life has to offer. If they are, then you are on the verge of a life long lasting relationship.
The love part, is the part that keeps us from being lonely, keeps us from needing that support, that reason for working so hard to succeed. Not everyone wants a family, not everyone can see themselves married.. but even those single ones, the quest for love is longed for, deep down, they at times feel empty, like something is missing, and their quest for love continues with trials and errors.
Getting to the fun part of Boyfriends (girl)
The mating rituals.
Ahhh, that's what all of God's creatures do, from the big to the small. Trends come in and go out every year. This year, the Celebs are proudly boasting babybumps, who knows what'll be happening next year. Celeb baby camps.. who knows. But for the rest of us, we have our little ways of attracting mates, and on Valentines Day, we get to settle in with the one we're with, and celebrate the old tradition of love.
Looking hot for your man (woman) is something that's always been trendy, and I can't see that ever changing. Looks matter to a majority of people, what they wear, how do their hair, personal grooming. I'm not talking about guys looking for the hottest chick at the club, there's too many of us fine ladies our there for the boys to keep up. It's usually hottie overload, cause we all look good. And we do. From our many different shapes, sizes, tones, dress codes and conduct with body language we all have our own little unique ways of attracting the opposite sex. And the first impression you make on your man (woman) is usually what will melt them down to their toes when you go out on a special date, while dating for a while, to remind them why they picked you up in the first place. So for your ever so fine Valentines Dinner, you can consider who you looked when you met him, and what was appealing to him (her) at the time. Ok, so some of us aren't the same size, that's not what I'm talking about. It's the element of surprise, something new, even a new dress, something he hasn't seen before.. with something new underneath to whisper about to him during dinner. It's called spice sugar, and every relationship needs a little sprinkle from time to time.
Now your all looking fine, and out for your candle lit dinner… hmm.. what next?
Maybe a Valentines Day Present for your Boyfriend (Girlfriend)
Chocolate is always a handy dandy start. Guys don't mind the box of ones with a tuxedo vest and tie attached. Or maybe a grand gesture of a special text message to come timed right before desert, telling him what type of desert he'd be getting later. Ohh so nasty I know. Or you could give him a Valentine, made by you, with a picture of the two of you, pasted in the centre of a cut-out heart shape. A love token is always appreciated, a chain with half a heart, while you have the other half on your chain. If you don't feel like going out, a nice quiet dinner for two at home, with wine, candles, and of course his favourite meal, either prepared by you, or catered would be great. (see my article on love poems, and romantic music if you go that route, some pretty fab ideas there.) You could plan a special get away on Valentines Day, and play for it all year long.. and lastly maybe tickets to his favourite game, and his guest can be anyone he chooses.
The sentiment of a Valentines Gift for your boyfriend, has a personalized flavour it. He is your boyfriend and nobody else, you are exclusive, you love him, appreciate him, he's your pookeybear, and you want him to feel your love and share the day for lovers with you. If you don't want to go with traditional chocolates and flowers, here's some cool ideas for you.
If you guy is a collector, of toy cars, bottle caps, lawnmower parts (kidden), then take an interest in what he likes, and check out places like eBay and see if you can find that ohh so special something he's missing from his collection.
Some guys like teddy bears. Yup, they love to cuddle them, they don't admit it, but they do. You could find him the softest teddy, and give it to him to keep for you.. in his room. You can add a bowtie, a rose, and a love poem to your teddy.
Cologne.. yum. It's great when your boyfriend is all foxy and scented, turning girl's heads everywhere he goes. If you know what kind he likes, top him up with a gift pack, or pick out a new one that you like, and think he would go for.
How bout a keepsake poem, printed out in a mini album of your lovely adventures. Your vacations, pets, and all that you have been through. Keep it short, sweet, but sentimental. You could also get him a slideshow digital photo frame, and put pics of you and him on a USB so he can play it when he misses you.
You could give him some free download cards to down load his fav videos or mp3s for free. Or buy him a series of recaps to his favourite games, sports events or movies. Any type of gadget that's new out on the market is fun to play with, and guys love that.
Okay all you love birds, that's it for today. Enjoy everything you have been offered during your love affairs, and offer all that you are, and all that you can be. Take each day as a breath of spring, and remember the days before you met, on Valentines Day, recap those special times, and get back in tune with why you got together. Refreshing your love, and celebrating your life as a couple, hopefully will keep you two lovebirds together for many happy returned years.
Peace and Love
Happy Valentines Day, You lovestruck lovebirds.
