My Funny Valentine Collection articles, dedicated to you.

Yes, my Funny Valentines Day Special articles wouldn't be complete without covering the hard to buy for woman. The woman of today, who is self sufficient, she bought everything she wants, and she doesn't like cut flowers, because they'll die, and they are a waste of money. For you guys out there, don't despair, practical women aren't heartless, beneath all of that, there is a woman, a sensitive caring loving woman. If there wasn't, then she couldn't love you. And you are with her, have been with her, picked her for a reason. She's a good person, with a good head on her shoulders. She's smart, quick to the punch, and goes after what she wants.

How more sexy can that be?

Sexy is the key word. And being sexy yourself, and confident, and mysterious, will certainly gain her affections.

These types of women don't need to be romanced in the traditional sense. Buying flowers, chocolates, Valentines Day cards and the usual round of the house collectibles in the local stores aren't going to cut it for these gals. They aren't easily impressed, they don't have time for muss and fuss, and mushy mushy isn't in their vocabulary.

Does that mean you skip Valentines Day for her?

No way.

She is waiting for you to figure her out. For you to find a way to get to her inner love child, that is just waiting to be nurtured. And when you do, that ohhh so special something about her will come out, and you will be very surprised, at what lies beneath that exterior of polished to perfection.

The wildcat in her, has been waiting for a man like you to come along. If you are serious about her, engaged, married, in a long term-relationship, than you know her as well as she's allowed you to, and some men find such women intimidating, and either give up, and leave, or they don't understand and eventually find the lady too cold hearted.. too distant. Hay, don't worry, it's only a challenge. Not so much a challenge as in a game, but it's all boils down to respect.

Modern women of today have achieved success. They expect the best of the best of the best from themselves, work colleagues, and yup, you guessed it. Their man. The challenge isn't competing against her, or her strong will power, or tyring to change her or you for that matter. It's more of a search for an equal. A successful woman will respect a man, who's proven to be her equal. She quickly sees through a phoney line, she knows when you're nervous around her, she understands only too well, that she makes a lot of money on her own, and she doesn't need a relationship to cling to, to get through life, following her path.

What does she want?

A partner would be my guess. An equal. One to walk beside her. Not try to chase after her, or allow false insecurities get in the way. It's very unattractive to a successful woman, to have a man in her life, feel in superior to her intellect. She doesn't need you trying to outthink her; she doesn't want you to take care of her. She will respect a man who respects himself, and is happy with his life, and is happy doing things by himself, and leaning on himself when it's trivial matters. She needs a guy that will compliment her, adore her, but most of all respect her need to walk her path, and not get in the way or try to pull her backwards.

When Valentines Day is approaching what type of gift is appropriate for a practical woman?

There is no easy answer to that question. It really depends on how well you know her, and her likes and dislikes.

For example.

She hates plants, they are needy and they always die on her. She loathes fresh cut flowers, because they wilt, and fade away.

Solution.

If she has an office, take notice of her color scheme. Now you can go about this in two different ways. One, you can go to a local garden centre, and buy her a fake plant. Or two, if you're handy you could make it yourself. BUT, it has to be just the right type. There are some pretty fancy ones that are out there, (they can run in high prices) the newest styles are gorges. There is one, that has a board for the base, then smooth stone pasted to the base, with like water lilies, or tiger lilies. They are very IKEA (not that IKEA sells it, but the style would remind you) type plants. The flowers are made so perfectly that they look real. They are very very elegant, would add style to her office, and even though she won't show it, she'll feel good when everyone is jealous. You can get her one for her bathroom at home, with the stones, and even a waterfall that goes with it, for relaxation. With that, you could have a hamper filled with bath salts, bath rose petals, aroma therapy candles, and fill it with all sorts of the newest products made to pamper her.

Okay, so you didn't like that one

How about hiring a landscaper? Most modern women don't have the time or the care to create a garden. Some live in penthouses, but do not despair. Building her a dream garden on her deck, backyard or wherever, will absolutely amaze her. Have them make a special sitting place for her, with a bistro, and rose arbours, and boxes filled with fake plants, mixed with real ones. Have a contract with the gardener to come to her house twice a month to weed and maintain her garden. You can have a waterfall built, with rocks and stones, and patio stones for her to trail through. Have them plant flowers that attract butterflies, so her garden will be full of life. It will be her private romantic getaway, in the privacy of her own home. And if you are really ambitious, have a gazebo built for her, and a hot tub.

Not that one either?

Well, getting away from plants. The element of surprise is the major factor, along with the meticulous planning that will impress her; it's the effort you put into surprising her, that counts. How much you want to show her you love her, admire her, and want to bring out the wildcat that's just a scratch under the surface.

The traditional Candle lit dinner, at probably her favourite restaurant, that you made reservations for 6 months ago is a great start. All girls, no matter how practical enjoy good company, fine wine, and a great meal. You could offer her a chain or a necklace, or even a paid day trip at the spa with one of her girlfriends, your treat. Or maybe you could make a contribution to her favourite charity, in her name.

Next

Spend some time getting to know things about her child hood. Her favourite music group, her favourite movie star, her favourite sport, is she a collector of any kind? Usually practical gals think collecting anything is a waste of time, and they call collectibles dust collectors, but just make sure. If you can pinpoint one thing about her that is naïve, or was, that she longed for, a single wish or hope or dream, that she just skipped over. Now at the risk of sounding dumb, I am gonna say this, I don't mean a favourite doll, or pony. But, there maybe something. It depends on your budget, and how much time you have.

Say she always wanted to go to Paris. And it's not in your budget, you don't' have a private jet plane, and maybe if you saved for a while, you could do that once in a life time trip. Why not bring Paris to her? Hire a caterer, a violinist, the whole nine yards, the music, the scene, single table, dinner for two? Or you could order her some perfume, or something Couture right from Paris. It doesn't have to be big, but it can be special.

Going for the horse driven carriage ride around the park. Buying her a years prescription to a woman's magazine for a year, along with a hired masseuse to visit her once a week would be fun. Maybe you could get together with her mother, and put a bunch of childhood memory pictures together, for both her and her mother. You can put it in a digital picture frame for her desk at work, or home. They come now with video, audio, slideshows. If you are technically inclined, maybe you could upgrade her computer or her remotes at home with her surround sound. Set her up her own theatre room.

Maybe fly her mom to surprise visit her over the weekend, if her mom lives far away. Or if her mom lives near by, you could surprise her with tickets to take her mom out, making her take a well deserved break from work.

If nothing there is tickling your fancy, then might I suggest, the traditional candle lit dinner, take some dance lessons, and impress the daylights out of her. If she wants to keep up with her man, she'll have to start taking the classes with you. Now that's a treat!

Good luck

Happy Valentines Day
