Famous Love Stories are timeless classics, depicting of couples throughout history that have faced challenges, and stood strong together against incredible odds, that touches us all, and encourages our outlook on love.

Some couples endured rejection to their unwavering affection towards one another, other's it's simply the way they felt about each other, effortless respect, the outstanding romantic gestures that we don't see so much these days that continue to keep their memories alive. Sometime in history tragedy and love went hand and hand, poets write about love inspired from such stories. Famous play scripts, movie scripts, and novels were created based on a true love story that happened during a time long ago.

Exploring who some of these couples are, and what they stood for, and how love conquered all, is an important part of history, of romance, and of what human kind is all about. On this Valentines Day, if you are running out of ideas, take a jaunt to the bookstore, online or a hardcopy, and flip through the many tales about love, and read it to your sweetheart. She or he, will appreciate the time and effort you put into such a gesture, and try to pick one that relates somehow to the two of you.

Every culture all around the world, has it's tales of love stories. The most intriguing these days are the ancient stories, usually depicted in classic film. So if you're not into reading, renting one of romantic era movies might be what's right for you. What all the cultural love stories have in common, is the power of love. The tight and unrelenting emotions, trials, and victories that challenge the lovers, and who they either lived through it, or tragically died trying. There are love stories who warm the heart, leaving the modern day lovers feeling a sense of satisfaction, hopefulness, and appreciation for their budding loves.

Although some of the stories from days past, live only now in the realm of a dusty novel, somewhere along the line, there was some truth. Wuthering Heights, (by Emile Bronte) with Heathcliff and Catherine, was probably one of the most sad romantic tales ever told. A classic novel, with heart wrenching emotional rollercoaster's from chapter to chapter. Also Jane Austin's Pride and Predigest is another classic, that women will always enjoy, and hold high on their favourite classic novels list. If you want to choose a novel of worth for your sweetheart, choosing a Jane Austin, would be the most appropriate. Jane Austin Fan Clubs and Reading Clubs are world wide, and still going strong today.

Cleopatra and Marc Antony

As a historical fact, The Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra was one of the most prominent, beautiful seductress of ancient times. Her beauty was surpassed by no other, and her passionate and loving nature finally set her doom. The story of Cleopatra, being the mistress of Roman General Julius Caesar, than after his plotted murder through mutiny, secretly married her greatest love Marc Antony, in 36 BC. This marriage set off a chain of events that changed history forever. The Roman politicians were untrusting to an Egyptian Pharaoh being wed to Marc Antony, due to the fact he was sent there to conquer Egypt, not win the heart of their Queen. But alas, Cleopatra captured Marc Antony's heart, and in the commotion during the battle of Octavian, where Roman forces went to war on Egypt, Marc Antony heard the vicious lies that Cleopatra was killed, so in remorse he fell on his sword. In Cleopatra's grief, she took her own life, unable to go on without her beloved.

The Pharaohs ruled Egypt for about 4 thousand years, and their kingdoms fell to the hands of the Romans. The Roman Augusus became the first Roman Emperor creating his own destiny, and new rule for Roman Provinces.

One famous couple that will go down in history for sure is:

John Lennon and Yoko Ono

Despite the fact that many blame Yoko for the destruction of the Infamous British band, known as the Beatles, there are many who melt when they think of the adoring love between John Lennon and Yoko Ono. What was it that was so appealing about the duo? John and Yoko married, and were an inseparable pair, and on the cute list they rate about a 9.5. They referred to themselves and Johanand Yoko, John even went as far as to change his name legally to John Ono Lennon, during their marriage. John was devoted to Yoko, and didn't run, cheat and lie to his beloved wife, which has been in the past common placement for famous rock stars. John and Yoko shared the same values when it came to social and political opinions and tried in their own way to change the world, Giving Peace A Chance. The Assassination of John Lennon, was heartbreaking to the world, but his Yoko was the most devastated, she lost a part of her soul. John Lennon also had a son, Julian Lennon, who is not Yoko's son, but bears remarkable resemblance to his father, and is a wonderful musician.

Napoleon and Josephine

A marriage of convenience, at age 26 Napoleon took a fancy to Josephine. An older, prominent, and most importantly wealthy woman. As time drew on, Napoleon fell deeply in love with Josephine, and she with him, but that didn't deter the adultery on both sides-their mutual respect for one another kept them together, and their burning passion between them didn't falter, and was genuine. They eventually split, as Napoleon deeply required something Josephine could not give him, an heir. Sadly they parted ways, both bearing the love and passion in their hearts, for all eternity.

Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn

I am Henry the 8th I am, Henry the 8th I am, I am.. I got married to the widow next door, she'd been married 6 times before.. The British Band The Beatles might have made light of good old Henry VIII, but as a historical fact, there was nothing light about that man. He was a tyrant King infact, who yelled "Off with her head" during every marriage he had.. all VII of them. The reason being, he wanted a male heir, and all the man was capable of was producing daughters.

Anne Boleyn was murdered May 19th, 1536, at the order of her husband Henry VII, but their story above all the others went down in history, for a purpose. I believe Queen Elizabeth had something to do with that. Henry was the first to divorce in England, it was illegal before he married Anne Boleyn, (explaining his need to be a widower) Anne proved to be an adequate companion for the King, however, three years into their marriage union, he had her beheaded, due to the fact that she didn't provide a son. She was charged with bogus insults of adultery, treason, but it is a historical fact, it was due to Henry's quest for a male heir. There would be a string of 6 other wives to follow in Anne's footsteps, but Anne stands out, as her stubborn, outspoken nature and very clever mind granted her recognition. Anne Boleyn also mothered Queen Elisabeth, who after living with the stench of knowing her mother was murdered by a King, because Elizabeth wasn't born a male, sadly never married and reined over England for the rest of her days, determined that no man would rule over her, and I pray you kind sirs and madams, be rest assured, not one did.

William and Ida McKinley

One of the most devoted (to each other) couples in history. William and Ida McKinly were married, Ida was a beautiful young, vibrant woman, whose health over the years dropped her down to a mere shadow of her former self, eventually with her body breaking down to the point of being an invalid. President McKinley's fondness of his wife grew more intimate as time went on, to the point that he doted constantly over his beloved wife. His first Lady, was the first Lady also of his heart, and; when they attended social events, their doting on one another at times clouded out the guests attending, and at times, it felt as though only the two were in the room. When President McKinly was assassinated, he was quoted to say, with grave concern to his secretary, "My wife -- be careful...how you tell her!"

EB and Katherine White

The founders of the New Yoker, still in publication today. Their story is one worth telling, as they are one of the fist entrepreneur couples, who had blazing passion for their work, and of each other. EB, had been known to joke about how Katherine's quick wit is what drew him to her, she was his lady linguist, she was elegant, stylish, and a worthy advocate. She enchanted EB with her verbal agility, as he was an author, and the two worked diligently together, as a match made in heaven, creating the voice that is carried with pride and dignity in the New Yorker today.

Lucille Ball and Ricky Ricardo

American Famous Love couple, and '"Cutest Couple'. They fell in love, shared a great career, breaking the interracial marriage barriers, had a stormy relationship with constant break-ups, and passionate makeup's, and finally it ended with divorce in 1960. But Lucy's gone down in history, saying Ricky was the love of her life, and she missed him.

Elizabeth and Robert Browning

Poetic dual pair, whose lives were filled with forbidden marriage, six years difference, with Robert being the younger, Elizabeth's writing exceeded Robert's, but they remained in love, and stayed together all the days of their lives.

John and Abigail Adams

American Famous Lovers, John and Abigail are best known for writing over 1,000 love letters to one another, during their courting and marriage. John, the statesman, adored his wife, and didn't dare stand in her way when it came to her taking charge of the homelife, doing things for herself. Abigail wasn't well received as the wife of the Stateman by her husband's followers, she was nicknamed "Her Majesty" for her stubborn nature, and influence over her husband. The two lived their lives, in utter devotion and love, all the days of their lives.

Jackie and Rachel Robinson

A true American Love Story, Jackie Robinson, a player for the Brooklyn Dodgers, had a devoted and supportive wife that he adored. She stood by her man through thick and thin. They met at UCLA, and the enduring qualities of Jackie, being bashful and modest, drew her to him. Together they fought some pretty tough odds, and she was his rock through it all. What a great love story, of true love standing, out of respect and honor. After Jackie's death Rachel founded the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

King Arthur & Guinevere-

King Arthur, as we all know from the legend of the Sword and the Stone, Merlin the Magician, the Knights of the Round Table. (Gargoyles?) Ring any bells? Well, King Arthur had a wife, a beautiful and elegant wife named Guinevere. He doted over his wife, and loved her deeply. As legend goes, while King Arthur was out on his crusade, Queen Guinevere was tempted by King Arthur's number one man, Sir Lancelot, who was left home to guard the castle, not his beloved wife.

Boccaccio & Fiammetta

Although not much is actually known about the romance of Giovanni Boccaccio, and Fiammetta, what is known, is that she was his muse, and appeared in his early works.

Charles Brandon & Mary Tudor

Henry VIII, the ruler of England known for beheading his wives, had a sister named Mary. In order to gain political power, he sent her off to marry King Louis XII of France. Sadly for Mary, she was in love already, with Charles, the 1st Duke of Suffolk. After much ado, Mary agreed to marry the old French King, on one condition, she was allowed to choose her own husband, as the King of France was old, and very weak, with a short life expectancy. Shortly after Mary married King Louis, he died, and Mary wasted no time, and made haste back to England. In fear of her brother not holding up his end of the bargain, which turned out to be correct, she swiftly married her one true love, the Duke of Suffolk. Henry of course was furious, but luckily, the Duke was wealthy, and for a hefty sum, King Henry quickly accepted their union.

Edward IV & Elizabeth Woodville

Fair Edward a handsome and charming heir, who made his own decisions about love, and despite the controversy, he married a widow, with two sons, Elizabeth. Elizabeth Woodville, was known for her role in the Wars of the Roses, where she lost her first husband, and in the succession between the Plantagenets and Tudors. She quickly lost her Queens' Crown at the sudden death of her beloved Edward, and the King's successors were taken from her, locked in a tower, and the two small boys were never seen again. It is unproven, and quite rumoured, that Richard had them murdered, some say they were buried alive beneath the castle floors, but no explanation has been offered for the disappearance of the two tiny princes. Richard also took Elizabeth's daughters, and tried to marry one, and have his son marry the other. Richard was overthrown in battel by Henry VII, and married Elizabeth of York, Elizabeth and Edward's daughter. Elizabeth Woodville also was a character in one of Shakespeare's Richard III (Queen Elizabeth), and the Grandmother to Henry VIII, Elizabeth and Henry's son, and grandmother to Queen Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, (never married).

Helen of Troy

Theseus met the love of his life Helen, and there was only one problem, she was married to the enemy. So in his haste, or fit of passion, he couldn't very leave the love of his life, to the hands of the enemy. Helen, was married to Menelaus, a powerful Roman Emperor, who would kill any man who dares look at his wife. Theseus kidnapped Helen, and took her home to Troy, thinking he was saving her from a terrible life living with the Romans. The Trojan Horse gift was offered to Troy, filled with Roman soldiers, who attacked Troy from the inside, and Troy Fell. Even after the fall of Troy and Helen was returned to her husband, after Theseus kidnapped her to make her his own wife.

It is said that Helen loved two men, and only the fear of her husbands wrath would send her back, to protect Theseus.

It is also said, that Helen wanted to be with Menelaus, that she loved him very much, and didn't wish to be kidnapped, and lived out the rest of her days happily with Menelaus.

And In one otherrversion, Helen loathed Menelaus, and tricked Theseus into helping her escape, only to start a war, and be caught again.

Which ever is the truer, this line sums it all up neatly.

"Is this the Face that launched a Thousand Ships." In a word, "Yes" The Romans set out One Thousand Ships, all with the purpose of retrieving his prescious wife. Theseus lost his life, his family and his home, all for a the love a woman.

There are several mistakes in this article....Henry the VIII was not sung by the Beatles, but was sung by Herman's Hermits. The first wife of Henry the VIII was Catherine, whom he had his marriage annulled in order to marry Anne Boleyn with the hope of conceiving a male child. Henry VIII did, in fact, conceive a male child by his third wife, Jane Seymour. She died shortly after.

John Lennon does have a son named Julian by his first wife, but he also has a wife with Yoko, Sean.

I stopped reading at Henry VIII.

Worse follows: The Trojan War was started when the GREEKS wanted revenge upon the Trojan, PARIS, for taking Helen. Neither Theseus nor the Romans were invovled. Many, many other errors appear.
